Bilstein 5100 front only

Hi all. Have 2007 4runner 2wd V6. Installed Bilstein 5100 all the way around but we found the ride too stiff compared to the stock shocks. Decided to replace the Bilstein rear shocks with the factory OEM shocks and the ride improved. Probably because it's a 2wd and we carry little weight in the back.

My thought now is to possibly keep the Bilstein 5100 up front (stock coils) with the OEM shocks at the rear.

Has anyone run this setup? I search all over and did not find this combination of shocks.

thanks for any thoughts.

the bilsteins are described as a heavy duty shock. you will have a firmer ride with them. if you drive empty, your stock shocks will feel better. if you drive loaded, you will want those bilsteins back.

I’ll take your rear 5100’s if you plan to sell.

If you’re not lifting, I’d look into the 4600HD shocks for the front. Would still provide some of the Bilstein ride quality, but be a little more forgiving on a stock height vehicle.

Thanks for all the great replies. Now for those who went with Bilstein 5100 and/or FJ springs up front...which one would be best if I could only afford one of those--either the FJ springs only or the 5100 front only?

thank you!
