Ford talking to Toyota???

This may be 205 here, but I only heard today that Ford is in talks with Toyota. Say it ain't so.

I guess it has happeded before in 1981:
Ford and Toyota Talks
UPI
Published: June 10, 1981
The Toyota Motor Company said today that it would not reach agreement on joint production of small cars with Ford Motor this month despite earlier predictions.

Toyota officials said talks between the two automakers on an outline of the project had made little headway. But a Toyota official insisted the talks ''are progressing steadily concerning a production system which we are studying.'' He did not elaborate.

Yes, that rumor is true. No details have come out of the meeting.

It's mentioned in a Forbes.com blurb on the stock market today.

Nothing will happen.... keep your shorts on ... lol

Toyota maybe would produce a vehicle for Ford and brand it as a Ford at best. I highly doubt any type of merger would happen.

I heard that on the radio and couldn't believe it. If we were concerned about Toyota's quality today, just imagine what it will be after the merge. We can look forward to exploding engines and tires that fall off when driving.

I thought Toyota was talking to Ford about buying some of Ford's idled manufacturing plants in North America. Has something else happened since then?
