LS-swapped 4th gen? Has it been done?

I only ask because I'd like to do it with an LS3 Erod. I have a v8 4th gen already. Granted a lot of work would need to be done but I'm curious if someone out there has already done it.

I haven't seen one. Couple FJ's have I think.

Just throw on a supercharger me thinks. Cheaper and another 100 hp/tq.

Where is there a SC that's available for the 4th gen? I haven't seen any for sale.

You might be able to find an old TRD model, or URD makes a kit. URD's might just be for 05-09 V8's but maybe they make one that is compatible with the older V8's, I'm not sure.

I swapped an LS1 into my old Camaro years ago and I've been considering one for my T4R. Even a 5.3L truck LS engine would be a good upgrade in my case w/ a 165K mile V6 and stretched timing chain.

The engines are plentiful on LKQ and car-part.com and cheap.

Just offhand recalling the old Camaro swap, here's a stab at the problems to solve:

Engine mounts (I bought my Camaro mounts pre-fabricated)
Wiring: could use a standalone harness and 12VDC feeds?
Fuel pressure: LS wants 58psi constant delivery pressure
Cooling hoses to radiator and heater core
Transmission bellhousing and torque converter/flywheel bolt patterns
Instrumentation e.g. coolant temp, tach, etc.
LS PCM programming to disable VATS and unused sensors

But this swap also adds the complexity of engine control outputs to the Toyota controller(s) which are used for transmission, 4WD, ABS, etc. These may need to know engine RPMs, for example...how to convert the LS PCM tach output into useable form is a big question.

For the money it would take to pay someone to figure all this out doesn't seem worth it.

I agree and not to mention just a LS3 E-Rod crate motor will cost you more than most 4th Gens are worth and then you still have to work out ALL of the other stuff which will most likely add up to be the same as the cost of the motor, BUT you would have one very expensive but Bad Ass 4th Gen in the end, stuff like this is what "Dreams are made of"!!

Sorry to rivive an old thread but if I lose a head gasket in my 03 like they seem known for I would rather try this route than drop $3k on just replacing gaskets. The while OHC thing with the V6s and timing belts on the V8s seems to be a pain in their later years.

Timing belt for the V8 is about $500 in parts and 1-2 days labor. Cheaper and easier than a LS swap.

Would rather see a Cummins Repower swap, imo.

I would think the easiest thing to do would an ls with a 4l60 and your choice of transfer case. Make up some driveshafts to convert to the Toyota diffs and start rolling. Or go all out and swap to Dana's at the same time.

Replacing an A750 with a transmission that has a horrendous track record in regards to reliability hardly seems like a logical solution.

A 4l80 or any 80/90 series, yes. Any 60 or 65 series, absolutely not, they're garbage.

Well, I guess you can go ahead and where I said 60 just imagine I said 80, no attitude meant. Or put a trans in that if it does blow up there are many many replacements for way cheaper than the stock trans. Whichever way you'd prefer to look at it. I'd put a six speed manual in if I had a choice.
Although I personally have not had any of my Chevy friends have issues with the 60's in their vehicles. I guess it's the same as I don't know anyone who has had a v6 head gasket blow out but you hear plenty of stories of it happening.
