I'm a bit slow and I was still a little confused on the hoses from Centric since GLW68 listed both rubber and stainless hoses from Centric, as well as two other hoses from ACDelco. I put together this little chart on Centric hoses to hopefully clarify things for anyone else confused on this. Note, there are 6 brake line hoses required for the 4th gen 4Runner. However, when using Centric’s parts catalog search feature for StopTech Stainless Steel Lines, the search results reveal two types of hoses (007 and 507) for a total of four hoses. There are no stainless steel hoses available from StopTech (by Centric) for the rear uppers. Therefor, if you want to go with Centric hoses for the rear uppers, you will have to go with 150.44397 rubber hoses. rubber hoses from Centric 2 Front - Centric 150.44362 1 Rear Left Lower - Centric 150.44408 1 Rear Right Lower - Centric 150.44407 2 Rear Upper - Centric 150.44397 stainless steel from StopTech (by Centric) 2 Front - Centric 950.44007 2 Rear - Centric 950.44507 Alternatively, you could order the G-Stop Brakeline Kit (part #21186) from Goodridge which comes with 6 stainless steel hoses. However, some have reported this kit to be more of a pain the ass to install. Also note, when searching Amazon for brake lines from Centric, you must use the period [ . ] in the part number. On the Centric parts catalog website, I could not find 142 series 5th-gen calipers for the front. On Amazon, it shows about a $45 difference in cost between 141 and 142 series calipers. |
I have really bad uneven brakepad and rotor wear in the rear. Are tge calipers the problem or could it be something else?

When you order Toyota oem calipers from the Toyota parts stores online, do you get a core return when you send your old calipers back? Or do they not take them? Rockauto shows the core return price, I'm not sure if these oem Toyota dealer websites do the same or not. Contemplating going full 5th gen brakes... Thanks

Did anybody have a hard time finding the parts for the 5th gen swap? Wherever I look online all they seem to have in the way of calipers is rear. Nobody has the fronts. Rockauto, Amazon, etc. Going to need brakes soon so just wondering if anyone else had this issue. Also who offers the rotors painted if I decide to go that route?

I did this swap not long ago, ordered everything from rockauto.
However. As a reliability upgrade, let's just say I need to replace the front brakes tomorrow. Both sides have one frozen piston. These were centric calipers. I ended up getting 2010 calipers today from advaced auto, they have a lifetime warranty. Also new rotors and pads. Not sure how everyone else is making out but I expect to need to replace these in a year. The current 5th gen brakes that are in it lasted 9 months. |

The previous owner of my 4th gen did a 5th gen brake swap, and I don't think it was more than 5-10k miles prior to me buying it from him. I'm getting a pretty loud squeal from the front these days. Any ideas on what I can check? For the record, I did my own Tundra Brake Upgrade on my 3rd gen, so I should be able to crack this, I just don't know where to start.

Cost of upgrade
I have had a shimmy in the brakes of my 4th gen recently (wobbling steering wheel, pulsing in the braking action) and know I need to replace some components. Unsure though if it's warped rotors or seizing calipers (or even both). Have considered just doing the 5th gen swap while I'm making the investment. How much does the 5th gen swap cost if quality (but not necessarily top of the line) components are used?

More SS brake line info
I made a thread detailing the ss brake lines available and also detailing the replacement of the center lines.
Rear center line installation and other ss brake line info Hopefully it helps add to the info database for future brake job installations. I also did do the 5th gen rear caliper install on 4th gen rotors. I accidently bought 4th gen rotors before realizing I could fit 5th gen rear calipers on. The measurements on the intial thread doesn't show much difference between the two rotors. My parking brake actually works now. Don't know what was going on before with my old rotors. Maybe it's just a placebo effect. |
