This 4th gen has dual shocks in the front w no anti sway bar and a custom length rear so it's not really gonna be something you can guage your set up on. It's built to go fast off road, but takes getting used to on pavement. Kings are the bomb any way you look at it. You can't go wrong with a 2.5. I have the 2.5 Kings OEM performance series on my 5th gen that would be more in line to what your going to have on your rig, build thread is in my sig at the bottom.
You have to figure out the style of driving you want to do as far as how your going to set up your rig and how much weight you will have to determine spring rate and how the Kings will be valved. The 5th gen is HEAVY and the 600lb spring rate is at its max, but works well for me. So if you have plans of adding heavy mods later in your build you need to account for that in your suspension plans. Lot of factors to study up on, read till they bleed is my motto.
All that said, I love these shocks, they are nothing short of amazing when you get them dialed in. I've had a very good experience with Ben Brazda over at Filthy Motorsports | King Shocks and Off-Road Racing Parts in CO, and also had a good experience with Micah at https://downsouthmotorsports.com/ in San Diego. There are probably guys local to you in Chandler/Phoenix also that you can consult with.
I also highly recommend setting up a Nitrogen tank/guages with a no loss chuck so you can get your pressures dialed in after you get the shocks installed. It really does make a difference to me. Some of my pressures were too low after my rebuild and after I got them right, shocks performed a lot better.
You might want to take a hard look at other UCA options as well if you plan to beat the crap out your truck as hard as I do. The desert is unforgiving out there lol.
Ben has a series of videos he has put out and has a very good hands on approach to getting you dialed into your needs. I learned how to rebuild my Kings watching his video. He will call you personally if you want to get the full diagnosis into your build. Good Luck!!
YouTube
He also put out a tutorial site for your reading and reference studies as well.

Awesome-- Yeah sounds like your 4th gen is a different animal than what i am looking at doing. Funny you mention Filthy Motorsports, I talked with Ben for about an hour and came up with the setup I mentioned. Truck will be a lot of highway but some 4x4ing as well. Really want a smooth ride overall than can do some wheeling and blast over fire roads at decent speed. Probably not as extreme as your setup but willing to spend some money to ensure it's capable. Been doing a ton of research and i've gone from Fox, to Icon and now to King (mainly because of how helpful Ben was on the call in providing what seems like a customized setup that will work for me). Cool to hear real life experience on the 5th gen with a similar setup.
How does that truck handle whoops off road as well as driving on the road?
I would PM you direct but think i need a few posts before it allows me to do that! Been watching the 4th gen youtube channel also- def looks like fun!

This 5th gen was a pleasure to drive all the way out there on my trip to AZ. Little over 5k miles round trip and riding trails out there. Whats really cool is when your going 60 to 70+ mph on an interstate with construction, or when you stick it into a corner at those speeds, you can feel the Kings respond and push back against the shifting loads. Love em, Plain and simple.
This video was in AZ before I got my Nitrogen pressures dialed in. It was just a tad floaty. Like I say truck is heavy (1k lbs over stock) so there's a lot going on under there. Vid starts at slow speed and gets up to around 30 to 35 mph at the fastest point. You will want to air down your tires to 20 - 25 psi to soften the ride too. Fox has dual speed adjusters that supposedly makes them better than kings at slow speed, but I have no experience w them. You will be happy you went with Ben! Have Fun!

Tell me about your nitrogen set up. It's finally time for me to put something together. It looks like most kits (regulator, hose, chuck) are around $200 or so. Is that a good way to go or gather the parts myself?

What I did was gather the parts because I already had the high pressure hose from an old A/C manifold set up. But the initial nitrogen tank purchase is at least a 1/3 to 1/2 of the cost, so that was part of the motivation to do it myself. The good thing is there's really not much volume to speak of in the reservoirs, so the gas will last quite awhile. I really don't know where to source the hose unfortunately. I had to buy some odds and ends fittings at ACE to put it all together. I do like putting stuff together myself so it appealed to me to save a couple of bucks too. The chuck and manifold are listed below and a You Tube vid that Ben Brazda from Filthy put out, he goes over the nitrogen refill at the end. Always check pressures and fill your shocks at full droop, so you have to jack her up. Hope this helps!

Thanks. That does help. I also prefer to DIY. It's a better learning experience and the extra time it takes to me to research each aspect of a project allows me to keep avoiding my "Honey Do" list. I read the homebrew scene is a potential source for tanks, so I'll look into that further.

I was reading yesterday that the 2UZ pumps coolant through the throttle body. I guess its suppose to warm it up to keep it from freezing or sticking in cold temps. Maybe yours is leaking. A mod to gain horsepower or response is to bypass this if you live in warmer climates, might do some research on some of the Tundra forums...

I never knew about the bypass that's a good idea here in Florida. I was posting a pic to link in a msg to
@ xtremewlr
about the 05'+ plastic intake and throttle body mod he mentioned in Sherpa's thread a couple months ago. I was thinking about doing this finally. Other than being dirty as hell, this is working OK.

So I'll post my response that I just sent you so other people can see the difference in the TBs as well.
They are very similar, yes. But the 03/04 TB won't fit the plastic intake. I forget exactly why and of course didn't take a picture but there was some sort of interference or it was the bolt holes that didn't line up correctly.
First, this is how the 05+ TB would normally be installed. Unless you want to extend the TB wiring, it's simpler to just flip it upside down so your existing wiring harness will simply plug in.
Here are pics of each, side by side, mounted on the respective intakes. The TB on the plastic intake has bee flipped already and is how it's installed on my 4Runner right now.
There is also about a 12.5lb weight difference between the aluminum intake and the plastic, so the weight loss is a bonus with doing the swap.
You also need to get the fuel rails for the newer intake, or at least the front crossover pipe since the aluminum intake version goes under the TB and the plastic intake version goes over the intake. I tried fitting the alu intake version first and it wouldn't work. I think the fuel rails by themselves are the same but one side had different bolt hole locations. Best just to get the newer fuel rails and not have to fiddle with trying to make it work.
I highly advise replacing both fuel regulators on the fuel rails with new ones while you are doing the swap. Also a good time to check out the starter while you have access. Fuel injectors can be reused or you can spend the extra and replace them with 12 hole injectors like I did. I didn't see any performance or mpg gain with the new injectors tho.
I have a lot more pictures and details in my build thread on tacomaworld but feel free to hit my up with any other questions about doing the swap.

Thanks Todd! Love this community!!
I am wondering if the 12 hole Inj might be taken advantage of with my headers and a URD fuel pump. Thinking about swapping in an FJ 19 gallon tank to free up some travel on my drivers side upper link, and could put the new fuel pump in then. Also ordered a +3.5" DK LT kit, so I've gone completely out of my mind now. By the way my 1st gen is up for sale to help pay for all of this, so anyone in Florida.....

Yeah, now make the rear axle match width-wise. Only way to roll.

What the point of going to the gym if I can't show it off?
