Mechanic

You might have to wait to get an appointment, but Toycrawlers in Broomfield should be able to take care of you. He told me recently that he has a welder come and do the work.

Just had mine installed at Lakewood Muffler and Brake (changing names to something new soon though, but you can still google them) for $750. That included new bolts from the dealership since more than a few snapped off in the install process.

As soon as I heard that I was relieved since I know if I had been doing that on my own I would have been pissed and frustrated. Lol

What is your setup? I'm moving back to Colorado and have leaky manifolds. Have you passed emissions yet?

Everything is stock engine wise aside from the headers. I just passed emissions last year with incredibly leaky exhaust manifolds. I don’t think anyone has failed Colorado emissions because of their exhaust manifolds.

Thanks!

I’m not sure about the laws in Colorado but in California full-time four-wheel-drive vehicles are exempt from Dyno smog testsAnd are just tested on tail pipe emissions

4th gen v8 exhaust colorado

I have the dredded codes for bad cats. Has anyone just replaced the o2 censors and it cleared the codes? I'm also looking at the URD Cat back exhaust but not sure if it will pass emissions even after I replace the front cats.
any help would be appreciated.

Wanted to update for anyone else that finds this:

My intent was to go Doug Thorley long tubes + MagnaFlow Y-pipe with cats, effectively maintaining the upstream and downstream sensor locations in relation to the cats and getting the performance boost without being harsh on the environment.

I just got off the phone with Lakewood Muffler and Brake and they refused to install this setup, as "moving the cats from the headers to the y-pipes is illegal" and I "would not pass emissions". Something about federal law and engine codes on the cats needing to match. Basically, they told me my only option was to reuse the factory cats from the headers, if they were good, or buy new OEM header(s) and cut the cat(s) out, if they were bad, to weld into the DT shorties.

This is confusing, since MagnaFlow claims on their website, even specifically for Colorado, that their y-pipe cats are EPA and CARB compliant, and even goes as far as to ask for your emissions tag code from your vehicle to make the product recommendation.

But, if you have good cats and want them to cut and weld to the DT shorties and install, I was quoted ~$700-$800.

Really want the long tubes.

Another auto repair shop in Lakewood I use for maintenance will install the long tubes, but they want friggin' $2200 to install them. I'm guessing they are just quoting book hours.

Still looking for a reasonable price on my intended setup..

Appreciate the follow up. I also have leaking manifolds and would like to install DTs at some point but haven't explored it yet. I'm wondering if RSG Offroad or Tru Automotive would do them? They do a lot of Toyota overland builds and I would have to imagine they have at least had it requested. And if they don't, may have a recommendation. Probably worth a phone call.

Check with Exhaust Pro's in Thornton. I spoke to them about the DT shorties and welding on the Cats (2006 4R limited v8) because I had error codes. He might be able to answer questions about the DT Long tubes. If I remember correctly I asked about different cats than the OEM ones and he was able to provide me information. They were very helpful and able to answer all my questions and work with me on a number of options.

Checked with Exhaust Pros in Aurora on Colfax. They "don't do" 4th Gen 4R's.

Exhaust Pros in Northglenn on Huron (probably the one you referenced), quoted me ~$700, specified DT's were good-to-go, and said "do them all the time".

Seems we have a winner.

The one in Northglen is the one I was talking about and that's what they quoted me too last Fall.

Just got off the phone with Exhaust Pros in Northglenn and they said they wouldn't do the work because the y pipe tends to leak...

Looking to have this job completed ASAP, going to call Lakewood Brakes and Mufflers next, wish me luck!

Has anyone had them done in the springs? Shop originally quoted me $1100, took it in this morning and they’re concerned it’s going to be more in the $2k range, worst case scenario.

Has anyone had them installed in town? What prices have you seen?
