Couldnt find a Scangauge mount I liked, so I 3D Printed one

I couldnt find a way to mount my Scangauge II that I liked, so I made one.

It holds the gauge to the left of the gauge cluster, somewhat in front of the drivers side defroster, without obstructing it too much.

After about 8 different revisions, I have one I'm fairly happy with.

Was going to post the thingiverse link for you all, but it seems that theyre down for maintenance at the moment. so here are some pics of what it looks like currently

This is really neat. If it were mine to play with I would radius the corners around the gauge, or a heavy chamfer like the edges of the dashboard. Make the right edge contour compliment the gauge cluster circle better at the bottom.

I've made a single revision since the pictures in the first post, where I've filleted the top, left and right sides of the face a few mm, and cut out some 1mm grooves for the 4 selection buttons.

I probably wont make many more changes, at least for a while. I've decided I want to get it printed in ABS as soon as possible, and I'm having some issues with the prints stopping before the "arm" is started.

If I give up on ABS, I'll try PETG, just so I wont have to worry about it drooping in the car over the summer.

Funny story, when I got the scangauge, in came with half of a blendmount (bendable plate included, mirror attachment hardware was not) and before trying to print a mount, I had wedged the bent plate in between the two parts of the dash, mounting the gauge in the same general area. it bothered me that it wouldnt stay in place when I went to change a setting or record a fillup. my original plan was to print some kind of mount that would wedge between those two parts more securely, but since I was running the cable through the switch hole already, I figured a mount arm would hide the cable and look a little more intentional.

The blendmount is a cool idea, but being very tall, I keep my mirror in about the highest position possible, and hanging the gauge below the mirror wasnt attractive, IMO, and would come too close to obstructing my view.

If you mean on top of the steering column, thats where the mic for my scion headunit is, and it works better there than the other places I've tried. if you meant on top of the dash, I didnt like the way it looked. I thought about putting it down in the center console, in that pocket below HVAC, but it got blocked by tall drinks.

Sorry for the wall of text, but I thought about and/or tried a lot of things, and this strategy is the best idea I could come up with.

I had used the blendmount too, had the scan gauge at the bottoman of my mirror, also I have the aftermarket Broadway 300 mm mirror, I prefer using that clip on over the stock. Yea the mount did block some window view, I also had a weak mirror mount, swapped that chilli pepper mirror mount to the rounded tube type. It raised my mirror all the way up now. Also I just had the scangauge on top steering wheel cover. But it's centered in the speedo part. My bt mic mounts are at the center of windshield.above the mirror.
Well sucks that I'm not with my truck for a week. Over here at hawait now , never seen so many 4runners here, they have some strobe lights ontop.

Reviving my own dead thread with an update and some pictures.

So I polished the design of the mount I posted earlier, adding some rounded edges/details, making it more print-friendly, etc. Ended up with a mount that I was happy enough with to leave untouched for a few months. unfortunately, as the weather got hot, it only took a couple days of sun to melt the PLA print and the mount drooped about 45 degrees.

After several more failures trying to print it myself in ABS and PETG, I caved and sent the design away to Shapeways to get printed in their "Strong and flexible plastic" which I believe is vinyl.

It came out great! they have way nicer/better printers than the cheap one I have, and it shows in the finished product.

Unfortunately I dont have pictures of the now melted PLA version, but the one I sent to shapeways is the same design. Now here are a few pics, and the link where you can get the files yourself is in the album here: https://imgur.com/a/OhQANOD
