I'm torn between the medium and heavy springs. I have full skids and sliders, roof basket, full size 33" spare, but no aftermarket bumper. I do have 200-500 pounds of camping gear fairly often.
I've been running standard Superflex springs and have been happy with those (other than wanting more travel), so maybe that answers my question....

Dear : Nothing to do with HD spring . because the description you mention above of your car is still light , the reason you still happy with the Superflex springs which is the lightest in the market , so the best thing you can do and deserve the experiment is to fix one of the progressive spring not normal stupid single rate spring specially when you are talking about 4wd , and the only progressive spring available in maker are Icon SKU : 52800 3” in normal and the one you mention Metal tech 2” SD-MT-GSJ-4050 medium why not heavy , because heavy when you drive in the city roads will give you harshly ride And hard bottom out And if you add icon Bump-Stop Kit you will be so happy ,

Dear : Even if you return the heavy steel bumper your vehicle will be more comfortable ride . Never go with heavy springs , don't think because you fix steel pumper and few accessories you need heavy springs , totally wrong idea most of people have , heavy
is only when you bull heavy caravan , my friend
Heavy will damage some suspension parts in the long run .

Old thread but I'm hoping someone here might be able to provide some feedback on the Medium springs MT-GSJ-4050. I'm trying to build out my parts list for my lift. Considering 6112s in the front with an upgraded 650 lb spring. I'll be setting the snap rings to gain around 2.25-2.5" of lift. For the rear's I'll likely get 5160s, but I'm torn on springs. I've read a few posts with favorable reviews about Metal Tech. My truck is currently a bone stock daily driver, but I hit some forest roads and go camping a few times a year. Are these springs overkill?

Probably not the exact answer you are looking for, but here is my setup. I have 6112s up front w/ 700lb springs, on the 5th clip with a quarter inch toytec spacer on the tophat.
I had toytec superflex 2.0 springs that I swapped out a month ago for the Metal Tech Heavy long travel springs. I also have drawers that are probably about 80 pounds, along with my tire carrier setup which is probably another 100 pounds total. I have enjoyed having the extra strength in the rear for what I do and what I have back there. I haven't tested the MT springs out in Moab or any trails in Colorado yet since it is winter, but the ride has been good. I imagine with some or no weight in the rear the mediums will be perfect for you.
Something to note is that to get the true benefit of LT springs, extended shocks and bumpstops are needed, and to prevent rubbing when flexing, aftermarket LCAs and UCAs for the rear axle. I'm currently running Icon 2.0 shocks, which limits my travel, so I only have the springs right now. Saving up for the rest of the package. Feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try and get back to you.

I currently have the LT Metaltech springs and 5100's in the rear. I know that the springs are currently maxing out the shocks length. I can definately tell when going over bumps as the shock returns to full extension I think I can hear the thud.
@ Caldizzle
, are you still maxing out the 2.0 rear Icon Shocks with the LT Springs? And, if so do you think that the Rear Icon 3" springs would do the same? I just bought a set and was about to buy the 2.0 rears. But now not sure if I need something different.
Sorry if that all sounds confusing.
Thanks,
Brip

At the time, yes, I was maxing out the rear shocks still. I ended up having one blow and replaced them with LT basic Dobinsons shocks which have been doing great. From my understanding, yes, you will still max them out with the Icon springs, are they progressive rate?
The down travel of the shock will be the limiting factor depending on the spring. The "downside" to running a longer shock, is that you need to run bumpstop extensions as well. If you don't run extensions, the shock body will hit it's minimum length (maximum compression) before the bumpstop engages, resulting in a blown shock.
When I reached out to MT, the acknowledged that I was fine running LT springs with aftermarket shocks, but that I would only get the full potential out of the springs with LT shocks, which is why I picked some up when the Icon blew. I also picked up their 3" bump extension. I have been pretty pleased with the setup, and the guys at work have been impressed as well. The bumpstop extensions also save my fenders since I have gone to 35s.

First off... Epic Flex!
Second off... Are you running 35"s without a Body Lift?
Third off... the 3" icon lift springs I purchased are not progressive rate. But, now I'm having trouble finding them online. All I see are the 3" progressive rates.
I'm gonna call Icon and get their input on what to buy. Did you do the 3" brake line extensions too? Any change in the pan hard bar or lower control arms?
Also, are you still running the sway bar upfront?

Hey dude! Sorry, I'm not on here as often as I used to be. Thanks! I dig the amount of flex I have too haha.
I am running no body lift and 35s, you are correct. It works surprisingly well. I did grab the extended SS lines from metaltech when I went to taller coils. I also put on the EIMKeith PCK.
I had no front sway bar in these pictures, I've since also removed the rear.
Cheers

Another question.. How'd you manage to fit 35's w/ no body lift? firewall tub? Looks sick
Which dobinson LT shocks do you have in the rears?

Hey Slixx! Just put em on and sent it! I pulled the fender liners out and trimmed a good amount of material off the metal and plastic fenders. Hammered the pinch welds a good amount and obviously a BMC. For the rear I have the Metaltech bump stop extension which limits the up-travel. Also I cut a little material off the rear bumper. At full flex, it barely touches the fenders. My friend on 37s had to tub. Thanks!
I have the most basic LT shocks. They've been fine, but I'm pretty sure they need replacing already, so probably worth it to spend a little more $. I never planned on running them long-term.
Which part of SoCal are you in? I just moved north of Santa Barbara.

LoL.. right on. just buy 'em and worry about fitment later. I like that . I have mine all prepped up for 35's so we'll see when I go to do it.
Which shocks do you plan on getting next?
Welcome to CA. I'm in Anaheim. Few blocks from Disneyland.
