Maybe it's just me but anything under 2 hours to me is not a long drive.
That could be just rush hour.

Drove 5+ hours this summer from Toronto to Cleveland for a weekend of baseball and the Rock 'n' Roll hall of fame.

4 adults in the truck. Zero issues.

Did another road trip 2 weeks ago or so.. another 1600 round trip, from LI NY, to Vermont, then to mt Washington NH, all around NH, then into Maine, all over Maine, then back down the coast to LI.

Extremely loaded up as my friends truck that I was convoying with (Very lifted 2007 chevy tahoe), blew a U joint on the road which caused the driveshaft to leave the earth. He was sent home on a tow truck and we consolidated all their stuff into mine. I had about an inch off the bump stops left in the back. But the truck did the trip like a champ.
After changing the drivers seat cushion comfort was dramatically restored and I no longer felt pain or uncomfortable even after so many miles.

I drove 2700 miles over 3 days at the beginning of September, truck has 209k. Not a single problem. If you drive a high mileage car on a daily basis you just have to take some tools, fluids and a credit card with you and you'll be fine.

I usually carry enough tools to do 90% of what would be required anywhere. I always carry a quart of oil and 2 qts of gear oil. Any long trip where I might leave the pavement I carry a spare CV and a tie rod end.
I think the most helpful thing for me would be to get a tire carrier to move the spare outside. Putting it in the trunk takes up so much room. And the roof kills gas mpg on long trips where it counts. Like my picture above lol

knock on wood- Ive also never needed any of them on any trip I went on for myself.

I did 1850 miles from Northern California to Vancouver, BC and back at the end of August. I had only had my 4Runner for a couple months, and had the control arms replaced the day before I left, so I was slightly nervous. Had some issues but dealt with them when I got back.

I've driven from NJ to FL without any issues. Longest drive was FL to ID over 4 days. No issues there either.

Had a serpentine belt break on a 300mi trip last year. Luckily I was only a few miles away from home so I was able to go slow enough to keep from over heating to get out of a bad area.

The v8 makes it enjoyable. 3 hours is stretching my comfort for a new-to-me used vehicle, but you're rolling the dice on a used vehicle with one of the best odds for getting back home without drama.

Just make sure your spare is in good condition and verify that you can actually get it down (the spare tire assembly can rust into place making it inoperable) and that you have the jack. Check tire pressures and enjoy that silky smooth freeway power.

Just did a 2500mile trip with a front CV boot that has been ripped for over a year, and through at least 1 winter without any grease in there.. probably close 5 oil changes at this point. Still does not click, not bothered enough to replace it. OEM quality?

Yeah you can buy some time by shooting some grease into it .. I did my trip with both inner boots torn and im about to reboot them this weekend for the second time. Original oem cvs
Some people pump grease in and use flex or high quality duct tape to buy a week weeks of keeping the boots sealed.

I took my 3rd gen with 160,000+ miles on a 7500 mile trip to Alaska and back a couple of years ago. Plan on doing the same thing with my 4th gen in a couple of years. Didn't worry about my 3rd, won't worry about my 4th.

I've taken three 1000 mile road trips this summer with the 2007 v6 with 201k+ miles, including a trip through the nantahala forest where I left it in 4th gear the entire time while going up and down the mountains and a trip through florida with temps around 90 and the AC blasting. The truck never flinched.

Your advice is prudent, as I always keep a jug of coolant, quart of oil, spare serpentine belt and tool set in the back as a just in case. I also make sure to check the spare and all four tire pressure before I head out.

I used to drive BMWs and would come to expect being left on the side of the road at some point during a road trip, its just become ingrained in my head. My 3 and 5 series saw the flatbed at least two or three times a year. In my 8 years of 4Runner ownership I've never been stranded or needed a tow truck even a single time.

BMW, never again

Did my road trip from wisconsin to utah. 3k miles over 48 hrs of driving round trip. my 08 v6 runner ran like a champ and ran through the mountains of colorado like nothing. These bad boys can keep going and going if you maintain it well enough. currently at 159k miles.

Regularly add 1200 miles to the odometer traveling from Tampa, FL to Charlotte, NC and back, in varying weather. Never had any issues at all. I keep my maintenance up to par and if it's ridiculously hot, (90°F+) I run higher octane to avoid any knocking or unnecessary wear. I usually run ethanol free otherwise. A couple extra pounds of air to reduce rolling resistance as much as I can without stressing the tire, and I just set off. That's a ten hour drive, so i would think a weekend trip is a non-issue.

I trust my 4Runner implicitly. Hasn't failed me yet.

Nothing incredibly long. My 4Runner has 208K and I dont hesitate to take it anywhere.

Most weekends I usually go out camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing etc at various places around Maine that are about an hour to maybe 3 hours away.

The longest I have driven it is down to Rhode Island. I have done that a bunch of times. I plan to take it to Vermont at the end of the month.

I just make sure to check the fluids real quick before heading out.

For my bday last year I did an all off road trip from Sacramento to Arizona and back through Nevada. Everyday was frame bashing wheeling on rocks, sand, mud, dirt and snow with some freeways thrown in for fun when I got tired of being off road. Took lots of tools and spare parts with me and did an alignment myself about 5 times on the trip.
I also had to cut my exhaust off because I smashed it, but it was a great time and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Trip was around 1300 miles.
