After 30 below, does it really matter?

While we are cold here in Colorado today, not anything like that. I've never seen mine much below zero.

Since I live in the USA, and we are still using the old fashioned English system and not metric. I am able to give you the upper and lower limits of the temperature gauge in Fahrenheit. You will have to convert it to Centigrade. -22F to 122F. Found a temperature conversion chart: -30C to 50C

Wow our Canadian members sure see some brutally cold temperatures. jacal said the temp was -37C, for us Americans that is -34.6F.

Hi! My husband and I live in Manitoba, also, near the Whiteshell Provincial Park. IT REALLY IS COLD around here today-- the lowest it got was minus 28F!! (I am from the states and still relate to Fahrenheit)

I am not sure how low the digital temperature display reads in the 4Runner, and I am going to avoid testing in out until it warms up. My 4Runner is snug and cozy in our insulated garage-- we did not have to drive into Winnipeg today.

Ya, this year has been cold, but when I first for up here, winter '05, we had a couple of weeks in -40 celsius. The disply just showed dashes, no temp. -30 C does seem to be the cut-off for the disply.

-40C and -40F are the exact same temperature on both systems of measurement. This is dangerously cold. If you have a real mercury thermometer. This is the freezing point of mercury. Did the 4Runner after it was warmed up produce good heat at that temperature? I had to rent a 4cyl Honda Accord one time on a trip and at 20 below zero the heat was only luke warm.

Well in my driving, then engine coolant guage only went up about 1/4 at best. However, I had the heated seats cranked and the air was circulating so I was comfortable. I'll do a closer check and see just how warm it was coming out of the vents. In the past I had a ford ranger. That thing got so warm you were always turning it down. Really an exception. I also know that my moms nissan maxima never really keeps up, you basically leave the fan on max.

Still in the freezer...wifes Jetta is dead at the airport, can't turn it over at all...starter just slips.

4Runner is doing great. Glad to have the battery blanket, and block heater plug mod...also the tires are excellent, they are doing a great job at this temp (most get pretty solid). Although the streets appear clean (pavement) there is incredibly slick ice all over the place. Need lots of room to stop.

I also live in Manitoba, near Seven Sisters Falls. It got down to -40C last night (That's -40F)!

My husband and I drove our 05 SE V8 4Runner home last friday evening and the temperature registered between -28 and -30C (approx -20F). The 4Runner (we call her Suvi) drove great and the heating system kept us toasty warm-- so warm that I had to turn it down.

I did notice a few rattles and creaks that I normally do not hear and believe that Suvi was "suffering" a bit from the bitter cold.

My husband grew up in northern Alberta and was taught that it is not a good idea to drive a car when it is below -35 or -40 (Fahrenheit or Celsius) as steel can become brittle at such temperatures. So, in the winter we stay home when it's that cold and avoid driving at night and very early in the morning when temperatures are at their lowest.
