File with insurance or pay out of pockets? Is it worth the repairs

Long story short: some bastard had a minor impact with my passenger side door while I was elsewhere so I'm guessing this occurred at a parking lot somewhere. Either way, I'm pissed about it. I'm not even sure how long it's been since the impact. I did see visible marks on the door itself but they can be buffed out. However my GF pointed out a slight gap inside the door which I definitely did not notice

Is this a safety issue? Should I file it with insurance, knowing it may result in an increase in rate? Or am I better off paying out-of-pocket for this repair? Not even sure how much it will cost to correct this. Take a look at these pics and advise, please! I'm more concerned about water slipping through along with dirt buildup

Hard to say without better pics, but it doesn't look too bad to where you need to file insurance or it being a safety hazard...

How much is your deductible? If it's a lot, you might just be better off sourcing a door from a scrap yard if you really care. Kinda sucks that it was a hit and run (I presume). Did you file a police report?

It is a $500 deductible. Honestly, it's not easy to see the damage unless you stand in front of the door while ajar and spend a minute or two looking at the edges where you will finally see the damage.

I'm more concerned about safety / maintenance wise as I'm not familiar with what can go through the cracks inside doors. I'm guessing all the electronics/wiring is located near the top area of the door so maybe I can just let this one slide as long there's no impact on the integrity of windows/wiring inside these doors.

Based on damages, I think they may have pulled in too close next to my 4R in the parking spot where they made a sharp quick impact with the door. On the outside it looks perfectly normal other than transfer of paint from the other vehicle so it's probably not worth the time and effort in having this resolved after all.

Still don't see how they managed to dent the inside but only leave behind transfer of paint on the outside though.
