RTT vs. Garage Door -- Will It Fit?

I'm seriously thinking about getting a RTT to facilitate camping and exploring with the kids. The one issue holding me back is whether my 4Runner with a RTT will fit in my garage (for various HOA and other reasons this is important).

Here are some numbers. The factory roof rack on my 4Runner tops out at about 75" (suspension lift, BL and 285/70/17). The lowest point of the open garage door when open is right at the entrance, which is 94". The plan would be to mount the RTT right to the stock rack side rails (which might require changing the mounting rails on the RTT).

Simple math would suggest that I have a good 19" to work with--enough for even the thicker RTTs which are reported at 16.5" when folded. But I just want to make sure I'm not missing any potential dead space that might surprise me. Are the manufacturers' numbers pretty accurate for the full thickness of the tent-from the rack to the top of the tent? Most RTTs are reported to be between 12" and 17" when folded.

Any other surprises regarding the total height that I should look out for before I sink >$1K into a RTT?

Thanks, J4R

My brother pulls in every day with his gun tote (used for recovery supplies) on his roof rack rubbing the seal on the door when he drives over the seam in the concrete. Close to 1/4" of room until he hits the brick on the exterior.

He had to adjust his garage door to raise a bit further, apparently easy to do.

Cool. Sounds like I was measuring is the right part of the garage, the entrance is the low spot.

Did the THULE rack add much additional height over the stock side rails? Also is your garage a standard garage a standard 7 ft garage? Do you think your RTT would have fit into an 8 ft garage?
