UOA results

Hello everyone, just got my first uoa back on my truck. To be honest, I sent it in after reading all the horror stories on the head gasket going bad. I have no signs of it occurring on my truck, but thought the sample will tell me if there is a problem I'm not aware of yet regarding the HG. Will an oil sample show if there is any problem with the HG? Here is a copy of the sample I jsut got back. Thanks.

Thanks for posting, don't see too many UOA on the V6.
Results look pretty solid.
Generally you're looking for sodium and potassium numbers out of wack, beyond universal avgs for a head gasket leak. It will also show in the antifeeze % column, if they're testing for it.

I'm at over 200K miles now on my V6, all original engine. I just do regular maintenance and keep driving. I do drain and fill my rad more often than recommended, have always done that with my vehicles and don't use anything marketed as "lifetime" fluid.

Nice looking truck lightfreak. Are you the original owner. I bought mine brand new, and maintained it about like you did yours. The only thing that isn't stock on mine is the 2 inch lift. Other than that just general maintenance throughout the years. Have you had to replace your wheel bearings yet?

Does this report's oil data contain any information that can be used to deduce your optimal oil change interval? If so, what does it imply about your next interval?

Yes it can, however I didn't have that particular test done, because I don't do extended change intervals, and it's an additional charge to have done. Down at the bottom of the report on the left side, you will see TBN. If you have that test done, it will tell you how much more life is in your oil at what mileage you did the sample at. It will tell you that you can either go longer on your next oil change, or you went to long.

Here's a recent one on conventional oil (bulk brand from the indy mechanic)
FYI: 8,000km = 5,000 miles

so you got 5000+ miles out of conventional bulk oil? how long did it take to reach that 5000?

regardless of type, 5000+ miles & the oil still shows good is just more proof that oil lasts a LOT longer than most think. & changing at 3000 miles is a waste of money on an engine in good condition.

Those 5000 miles and OCI would have been less than a year for sure, probably only 6 months or so since that was before we hit winter (roadtrip vehicle). 90% of that would be accumulated by driving a loaded car to a campsite/cottage/snow hill on the highway. The other 10% on sporadic commuting/short trips to Home Depot.

I don't want to dig through my travel logs and see where I would have been, but I distinctly remember (oh boy, that was a long OCI.. would make for an interesting UOA).
