Cooling system parts list -- sanity check

I've got a radiator leak, and am thinking that I might as well do most of the related items while I'm in there, since there's no record of cooling system work being done by previous owner, aside from transmission cooler added.

Sitting at ~185k, for the record, and it's the v6.

Here's my Amazon cart so far:

Radiator: Denso 221-3117
Water Pump: Aisin WPT-802
Lower Hose: Gates 22845
Upper Hose: Gates 22844
Thermostat: Toyota 16031-0P010
Radiator Cap: Toyota 16401-31650

Do all these look OK, or should I be using a different brand/part number for any of the above?

Am I going to have all the necessary gaskets/o-rings/etc with the above?

Should I be doing any other belts, or the fan clutch while I'm in there?

Anything else I'm missing/not thinking of?

Thanks.

Maybe think about the fan clutch, but really you should be good. Just a word of advice, the Aisin water pump i ordered from RockAuto developed some nasty play in the pulley bearing with around 30,000 miles on it. I ordered another one, its been good so far. But the thermostat and water pump should include all the gaskets you need.

I went through a similar repair about 6 months ago with my 06 4Runner. I didn't replace the water pump, it shows no sign of leaking so I decided to wait. I've been very happy with the Denso radiator.

I put in a thermostat from a autoparts store, which turned out to be a mistake because it started overheating a few months ago when the temperatures started rising here in Texas. I replaced it with a Toyota thermostat from the dealer and the temperature gauge has been right in the middle since then.

I would go ahead and get an OEM fan clutch as well.

When you set your water pump, make sure your prop is properly spaced via gasket. A quick way to set the gap between the prop and housing is to place some assembly grease in the housing, set your gasket, tighten the bolts and spin the pump by hand. When it smears the grease, take an engineers ruler (small) and make sure the depth of the grease is close to, if not the same as stock. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the exact measurement I got on mine. You may need to get a thicker or thinner gasket to make sure the prop moves the coolant correctly.

it's a simple and quick test I used to do on the old red-sled 308's that had overheating problems. Found my Aisin prop was sitting too far away from the housing with a standard gasket, so I cut one from thinner cork.

Can your rig tell the difference between 0.115 and 0.200? Probably not, and it's a little anal, but made my OCD rest after it was all re-assembled.

Best of luck with the maintenance!!!! Good to catch calcification before it catches you!!!!

I would recommend OEM Toyota radiator hoses. They usually are only a few dollars more and the fitment is much better.

What symptoms did you have that led you to diagnose play in the pulley bearing? I always worry a little about ordering parts from Amazon, as you occasionally get knock-offs, but I figure the odds are on my side...

Good to hear the vote of confidence on the Denso. I believe that's OEM. And yeah, I was leery about non-oem thermostats. Fortunately, I've got a short commute and can keep topping off with water until I get all the parts in, so I don't have to deal with an autoparts store.

Fair enough. I believe this is the correct one? Aisin FCT-072

Thanks for the details on that-not something I would have thought of.

Good to know. I can definitely get the Toyota ones, which should be 16571-31130 and 16572-31170. Do those come with clamps? And would you suggest screw or spring clamps if I'm getting new ones? I was figuring new spring clamps, do you know the part number that would be if I'm getting OEM?

Thanks.

Reuse the OEM spring hose clamps, unlike aftermarket screw clamps they don't wear out or get loose as the rubbber ages, they will clamp as affectively now as they did when they were new, albeit if there is one that is serverely rusted I would replace it, BUT if it makes you feel better buy all new ones but you would be wasting your money, IMHO

Replaced my waterpump, thermostat, and fan clutch recently. Aisin recommends replacing the fan clutch and waterpump together, as they wear at the same rate. Seeing as the the fan clutch is coming off anyway to get the waterpump off you might as well for peace of mind. My waterpump had just barely started to leak at 109k miles.
