I’ve lost a MPG when driving regular speeds. The idea that you can get better gas mileage by dumping more fuel into the engine is laughable. But...it’s effective. Certainly more pick up and acceleration. If someone wanted to push a suit for the ‘improved gas mileage’ claim, they could.

When I want to save a buck or two at the pump, I turn off the device. But seriously, the owner (Jason I think?) should stop making improved mpg claims. The performance is enough to sell it. He’s just opening himself up for problems. (Class action attorney speaking here)

Sprint Booster SALE for 4th gen 4Runner, Limited time. Reduces delay of drive by wire

Just echoing the feedback that some customers have given me. I will go back through the other pages of posts and will quote what people that divided their mileage out have said and I’ll post the results. I just thought it was cool. Again like I said, this is not the reason to buy this this, but there is feedback saying that I’m just echoing what I’ve been told.

I guess it all depends on your driving style but if your conservative already you will probably see an improvement. If your getting it for performance and ripping up the road then it can do that too but your not going to save gas doing it. I saw an improvement though. Either way thanks for the input bud I like seeing how everybody uses theirs and the results they experienced, I know I enjoyed mine on my v8 sr5 2wd, and I’m currently putting one in my v8 limited AWD. You need to stop parroting them because they are false claims. It's in their heads. Until you have proof positive that it provides a jump in MPG, it's false advertising regardless of customer claims.

I have seen ZERO gas mileage improvements due to the Sprint Booster. I didn't buy it hoping or thinking that it would make a difference. I bought it purely for the improved throttle response and the size.

Yup. Agreed 100%. His claims/parroting are doing the opposite for me, despite being happy with the performance enhancement. Almost wanna dump the thing out of principle as he continues to push the false claims.

When more than a few customers tell me something, I then regurgitate it. I will dig through my emails again and try to find the customers and ask them to post in this thread. I have no idea if it was v6/v8 2wd/4wd, city/highway. When someone orders, I send them to this forum and ask them to post a review, of course not everyone does this. There's also other areas in this forum where members mentioned it, then I started having people call me saying they bought it for that reason. I've always said that's not the reason to buy it.
THIS IS NOT the reason to buy this unit, the issue is the throttle delay and this fixes it. Many like it especially after adding a lift or bigger tires as it makes it feel peppier and the delay is gone. I don't need to make up false claims to sell the part, it sells itself and is the best selling part I've ever had. It's inexpensive and people enjoy it and usually are so happy with it, they want to buy something else. When a customer tells me it's helped them in another way that I didn't know about, I then mentioned it. Also, if someone orders this and isn't impressed, they can return it. I've sold double the amount of othese for the 5th gen and they are hundreds on people throughout this forum that have it installed. That is the truth.

Burtman Industries Sprint Booster, On Sale right now for T4r.org members, ships 2nd day air and 5 year warranty!

Below are a few customers with 4th gens. When I have more time I will private message all of them and ask them to comment in this same thread. Why not.

Also wakes things up during acceleration from dead stop, more of a positive launch when you put the pedal down than the factory buffered gradual throttle opening.

I dialed it back to Green 5 for errand-running just to get a feel for it, might try the Red settings after I get a good baseline.

Thanks for the price reduction, it was enough to pull me off the fence.

Last week while at Assateague on the over-sand area, I disabled the Sprint Booster and left it that way after we came off and reinflated the tires. Had to pull over after a few miles and set it back to Green 5, the lazy throttle was just awful.

It’s a huge improvement, but the red settings seem a bit too much for proper shifting and drivability. I will experiment with the lower red settings more though to see how they work. I only tried red 5 so far, and knew in very short order that it wasn’t good for drivability.

I posted this below in 2018... And after selling this part for over 10 years I've had some people mention getting a bump in mileage, but it will be interesting to see the feedback if they reply in here after I message them, then we can get a broader baseline of owners.

The best way to think of this is like having a loose throttle cable and tightening it up. For ex, the Honda S2000, they had a TSB for early models that left the factory with a lose throttle cable. People complained that there was delay when starting out in first gear and after shifting. The tsb has the dealer remove the slack out of the throttle cable, 2 min fix, to tighten it. Then a few years later the s2000 got drive by wire and was slower than the older models - the reaction time of the gas pedal. I've sold hundreds of these for other vehicles and some aren't as bad as others, but this one really make a big difference on the 4Runner.

Burtman Industries Sprint Booster, V3 SALE! -Still some in stock at this nice price.

Jason, I don’t think the issue is the effectiveness of your product. I’m a huge fan myself. However, some of us, (myself included) aren’t a huge fan when you regurgitate claims of improved gas mileage, when it’s simply not true. That’s like saying McDonalds fries are healthy because they’re potatoes. Lay off pushing the mileage improvement and I think you’d have the FULL support of the forums.

Burtman Industries Sprint Booster, V3 SALE!

If any questions, etc, you can always call and order over phone too, or text 717-319-2100

(I've sold a slew of these for the Honda Ridgeline (another vehicle with the same issues as the 4Runner) because that truck has some natural hesitation and people loved them. ALSO, I've been selling these for the 5TH GEN 4Runner, which doesn't have as much delay as the 4th gen, and people still love them and are getting them. These don't give more hp, which many think that's what it does. It makes the vehicle feel more like there's a direct link, a cable link from the pedal to the throttle body, which most of these drive by wire setups still aren't instant like an old school cable would be. Gives a more instant feel when merging from an exit onto the highway, more instant response when mashing the throttle, and quick pass bys where you may need to get out the way quick, it's just all around more instant.)

Below are some recent installs on 5th gen 4Runner, (remember, delay isn't as bad as 4th gens, and great feedback:

I would speculate that any change in fuel economy comes from how the throttle pedal and the throttle body move together due to the change in response curve.

On the OEM curve, it's hard to maintain a precise speed, I've often found that I slow slightly, then have to give it slightly more throttle to speed back up, and then I let out slightly when I reach the speed a meant to be at. Repeat until destination. So my speed is varying between 57-63km/hr. Or 98-104. Etc.

It's something that's always annoyed me about the drive by wire setup in this truck. The constant speeding up and slowing down cycle from the lack of resolution in the throttle response would definitely use more fuel, in theory... but I think in practice it's lost in the aerodynamics of a brick and the thirsty V8.

Anyway, the Spring Booster has eliminated this effect and the truck now drives more like a throttle cable equipped motor: Direct line between the pedal and the throttle body. Maintaining any particular speed is super easy. And school zones are no problem: 30km/hr is easy to hold. I often found I'd have to gear down to 2nd to hold 30... being in -D-, the truck wanted to slow down or speed up readily.

The Sport and Race functions don't play well with the IPT valve body mod. I'm confident the truck is slower in Sport/Race because the transmission spends so much time downshifting and then waiting for the V8 to spin up and go... if it just stayed in whatever gear it was in and put power down we'd be moving faster already.

I use Green-3, always, just to have the linear relationship between throttle pedal and throttle body. It's a pretty minor change, but it really makes the truck a lot nicer to drive.

Was it worth it for the money? No, probably not. One must be a real stickler for the details to appreciate it. It does precisely what I bought it for: simulate a cable actuated throttle body. Buying it for any other reason will lead to disappointment.

It also is able to significantly reduce the VSC's throttle stealing ways. When the truck yaws sideways during wheel slip, normally it takes about an EON to get throttle control back. The Sprint Booster reduces that to a second or two. Power comes back on pretty weird and it feels like there's a war going on over control of the throttle body... but at least you can go a lot sooner. Certainly a nice fringe benefit.
