sliders
got my white knuckle sliders on...in my unheated garage in February in MA lol...nothing like dealing with brake lines and getting fasteners started in these conditions (below freezing each day of install.) the sliders do fit nice once
you get everything out of the way for the ubolts. solid and they dampened my new 5100/ome setup really nice. next up is my tire carrier for rear hatch.

thanks - for anyone interested, too, i had the shop install the longer of front and rear springs both on the drivers side. OME is aussie, RHD vehicles, and say to install the longer ones on that side or something, but i installed both the longer ones on the drivers side and my truck doesnt have the drivers lean anymore from what i can tell.

teaser shot of the knucklebone tire carrier from detours offroad, looking forward to painting and getting the license plate led kit setup, etc.
his work seems fantastic from what i can tell and everything about dealing with him was professional. 20 years welding and a veteran, too. good stuff.

Nice build thread, Tom. I really wish I knew about, and chose those White Knuckle sliders instead of the tube step rails I added when I first bought mine. Those look like they are useable as steps as well as offering better off-road protection obviously. My step rails were poorly designed for this vehicle anyway, and I had to add 1 1/2” Delrin spacers to the mounts in order for them to be close to functional. In stock form they barely protruded from under the rockers so were completely useless as steps. I don’t really “need” steps, but thought they’d help the wife, and save some wear and tear on my seat bolster.
What did you do to the headliner? Is that some type of fabric? Hard to tell from the pic.

thanks, Brian. i like the way the sport tube style steps look, but yeah, these have other functionality. the install was somewhat a pain but i consider it worth it...didnt help i did it in february in MA.
the headliner on the GTI was just fabric that i spray adhesive (3M) to the headliner and pillars...that was a long time ago now lol, i remeber getting in on that trend before everyone and their mom did that in the vw/audi scene (notice my collection of cd on the visors.)

One of them reviewed decently on Amazon but I'm not sure which one it was. Theres a lot of them jist get the diameter right. I'm pretty sure I got a hit for 4runner in the reviews or questions section.

hilift install
installed a smittybilt 54" hilift in the trunk. as you can see i was going to mount the 4xrac (hilift accessory mounts, 10 bolt system) to the back of my seat, but i decided against it because of the material id be drilling into. i decided to use the double decker system. it is an inch thick and has a hard shelled bottom that the eight bolts hold onto. i had to order 2" hex bolts as opposed to the 1" the brackets came with, to get thru the thick carrier. the decker systems also clips down towards the back of truck and is bolted down toward the back seat. i plan on putting two small tethers to the child restraints as well for extra security and my plan is to keep an eye out for a truck vault on craigslist for under the deck, because my brute tote system (the best totes) no longer fits.
im going to use some silver paint pen for the back of my seats haha and im installing carhart seat covers in the near future too.
this hilift jack is beefy btw, 6" bigger than the usual hilift which is nice for winching (i carry a 20' strap and 8' tree saver for winching) and have sliders for tire changes.

detours offroad knucklebone tire carrier
worked on painting and assembling my tire carrier, hand made in Maine.
should get the tire mounted later this week. installing all new black lugs on my truck and will use 4 silvers for the carrier. also have two front end bolt on recovery points from treaty oak offroad.
my trucks kind of a mess rn, needs a detail but shes in good shape heading into spring. you might notice a half inch white paint on bottom of hatch.
mostly on inside of there, along bottom, i sanded, rust reformed (only spot on body that had any,) and white rust painted around the hatch latch area, as well as the half inch along the bottom of hatch you might see in above pic. ironically the latch motor ish the bed last week so i replaced the hatch motor and looked inside hatch during install and was happy to see very little corrosion. buttoned her all up. she needs a wax and cleaning some of the rust run-off onto bumper nonslip thing, etc.

Did quanapaug and old Indian trail with a jeep jk today freetown forest in MA. 10 miles...10 large puddle/water crossings and ice still. I used to own a jeep but this setup felt big next to a lowlift khaki color JK with wheels and as capable. I only used 4 l and center lock a few times. Mostly open 4h.
