I installed it last night, super simple and no issues. I was also concerned with the pipe resting on the rear cross member but after putting my hand between the cross member and pipe and then tightening everything up I have no issues. Sounds great, little louder than I as expecting but I believe I read somewhere they tend to mellow with a few thousand miles on them.
|
It seems placing something between the pipe and frame before tightening did the trick. Once the side at the muffler is tight it seems to hold in place, though I haven't taken it for a drive yet.
I also found a video on youtube where a guy uses hose clamps around a few exhaust insulators and tightens them so that the pipe is held just a little higher. I might try this also just to clear the frame more. currently the pipe is maybe 3/4 and inch off the frame.
UPDATE:
I didn't tighten the bolts well enough so the pipe came down to rest on the frame again. That rattle was annoying. I went back under and lifted it back to where I wanted it and torqued the bolts down to 40 or 45 ft-lbs. The first time I only tighten the bolts with an open end wrench. The instructions didn't mention anything about the torque specs. I also added the hose clamps on the insulators to help keep it in place. So far so good. It hasn't moved back down yet.

Anyone else experienced a whistling sound when passing someone or anytime you really rev the motor. I mostly seem to hear it when getting on the interstate or passing someone.
I tried tightening everything with no luck. Then loosening the bolts and reseating the pipe into each other.
Other than this the exhaust is great.

I have the same kit and a similar problem, looked below and it’s vibration from rear exhaust pipe (curve) hitting the cross member, I am going to bend one of the hangers to put upward pressure so it hopefully doesn’t hit anymore.

Just got mine on today and that's exactly what we did to avoid that problem. I've only driven it once so far but no vibrations to report at this point. If your exhaust is stainless, bending that hanger is going to be tough - a little heat and some motivation with a hammer got it done.

Mine is a rattle, I experienced that also but was able to fix it. I have a definite whistle when revving to high RPM when passing someone. I’m going to try torquing the bolts 45 ft. Lbs. and see what happens. I simply may not have them tight enough.

Pushing the pipe above the cross member and tightening the bolts held mine in place with no rattles.
I'll report back once I torque the bolts. Hope it stops the whistling.

Mine has a rattle and a whistle. I kicked the tip a few times and the rattle went away.
The more concerning part i have is...does anyone have issues with theirs rusting? My ss finish has been installed for four months and it’s already rusting and I live in Texas...

The Gibson Stainless is 409 Stainless and is common with 409 - the product is discoloring and it's warrantied for life - it can develop a discolored surface color and slight surface rust it’s the carbon in the metal - again very common - you are protected for life with the warranty and I stand behind it - for those looking for something that doesn’t discolor then 304 is another choice - but a choice that comes at 3-4 times the cost. Again, the Gibson is still LIFETIME warranty when you choose the stainless options and will never rust through ir eat a hole, etc, like the factory exhaust WILL DO.

Jason, what's the normal delivery time for these?
I ordered mine 12 days ago, and haven't seen any shipping information yet.
Thank you

Just so ya'll know, on the Gibson Site the Exhaust is about $495
and Pricing out the same Exhaust on Burtman it's $410.
Gibson is Free Shipping, not sure on Burtman,
and of course Tax could be different for all. but just saying Burtman is cheaper!
If I wasn't getting new Tires, I'd get Gibson... I also have a Cut out so my Noise Affliction is filled for now.
