Secondary Air Injection Pump (aka - should I buy this truck?)

Is this the same as the AIS problem I've been reading about here?

There's an 05 V8 for sale that says needs secondary air injection pump, guy says it has failed and the car will run with low power and sometimes cuts off.

it's his mother-in-law's vehicle.

Hell of a deal if I can get the problem sorted out. What else would be a red flag on a high mileage V8?

Yes...it sounds like it's open and not closing...it may need to be opened up to "fix" and disable...

Thanks for the quick answer.

I was actually quickly reading through this thread on the subject and trying to figure it out.

I need to make a decision on my 3rd gen or just jump ship to another vehicle, it's my daily driver so I'm rushing through this.

Did I get this right...

Is stuck open "limp mode"?

Looks like there is a fairly simple hack to get it closed?

Read something about the filter coming apart and getting stuck in a valve? How would I tell if that has happened and would it damage the engine?

Once it is closed it won't open back up again until restarted?

I read that thread a few months ago, and I can't remember if valve stuck open or closed causes limp mode, but I do believe it's not terribly difficult to close it (or open it) manually to get out of limp mode. Then, install slyfox's bypass kit and you never have to worry about it again. Took me 45 minutes to install, and I was going slow.

The AIS valves on an 05 v8 are nearly impossible to get to. You have to remove the entire intake manifold and both heads just to be able to see them. I have personally done it... it was a nightmare. I'm glad that the other years changed this design.

If its his mother in law then set a price. buy the bypass kit and tell her your gonna get the car checked out by a mechanic and try it out. when mine went out it wouldn't go past 40mph and its a small investment and then then this check for rust.
