Going to an f150 ecoboost
Thinking about making the switch to a new f150 ecoboost. Has anybody else done the same? Regret it? Please don't turn this into a Ford bashing thread. I'd go for a tundra but it's in desperate need of a facelift and I like the EcoBoost economy, specifically the 2.7.

My brother has one and he loves it. Drove it back to back with the v8 and the turbo absolutely smashed it.
I personally find the steering a bit indirect, but it is very comfortable. He did have an issue with the front shocks, but they were replaced under warranty.

Work vehicle is an F-150 Eco-Boost. It is not a bad truck by any means, has a ton of pep to it and can haul a decent amount of cargo. I have a tough time comparing it to the T4R, I find the T4R to be much easier to drive, and a quite a bit more competent on and off the road. Not really an apples to apples comparison.

I wouldn't even look at the 2.7. I would jump right to the bigger ecoboost. Just personal opinion.

I'm sorry you don't want this to be a "Ford bashing" thread when you specifically asked about the worst possible car brand in the world. I have an ecoboost that I drive every day. I made my work buy me a new car when I agreed to work for them, so its new. Its the worst vehicle I have ever driven. While the engine is ok, the fit and finish of the interior is garbage. The difference in tightness of steering and driving feel is night and day between any of my ford vehicles and my 4runner. And don't ask me about towing, if you tow with an ecoboost your MPG is something like .09 miles per gallon. I watched a great youtube about how terrible it was when towing uphill. If you are going to get a Ford truck...that's neat, every other person has one and they all suck. Heck, I have two and think they are both crap, my other Ford is an F350 super duty with the 7.3L. The only reason I drive the ecoboost is because it is completely free.
In my opinion, you are not "making the switch", you are trading in a swiss watch for a dumpster with wheels that may or may not work in 6 months.

If you think Ford is worse than GM, you're very mistaken.
I personally wouldn't buy anything but a Toyota, though.

Do you need a pickup or do you just like how it looks? I ask because I bought a 2016 Tacoma because I liked how it looked. I still love how it looks actually but I hated the 3.5 POS and hated traveling in bad weather and not being able to keep things dry enough that I traded it in after 3500 miles and bought my 4R With that said, If you don't need a pickup, don't buy one. Having an SUV far outweighs the just wanting to own a pickup. I should have bought the 4R to begin with.

I have a 4Runner and F150 (2009 Supercrew XLT 2WD 4.6L V8). I love my F150. It’s been a great truck.

What year is your ecoboost and is it a base model XL?

I like the look, size, options, and engine. I have a 5k lb boat I tow so a truck suits my needs for that. My v8 4runner tows it fine, but its approaching 200k. Like most truck owners I'd prob only use it as a truck 5% of the time. Nonetheless, I get A plan pricing through my brother in law so it will still je cheaper than a Taco or Tundra.

Honestly the only American Brand I would ever consider over Toyota would be Ford. I like that they didn't take bailout money and they seem to be innovating more than chevy and dodge. While I know they dont have great quality reputation, I really like the idea of the ecoboost.
If you don't need a truck right this second I would suggest waiting a few years to see what Toyota will do with the Tundra. I would bet that major changes will come soon if they want it to stay competitive in the American market.

The Tundra just feels so much bigger than the F150. And I assume, while the 5.7 is a great motor, no matter what they do the fuel mileage will always be terrible.

Old school thinker here, so forgive me if I'm wrong. But I really wouldn't trust a turbo to make it to high mileage - 150k and up. That may no longer be true, but it once was. And towing tends to keep the turbo 'on the boil' to provide the additional power needed on hills and windy days - unless that too has been addressed.
Like I said, I really don't know if things have been improved a lot or not with turbos. There are a lot of turbos out there that aren't very old due to automakers searching for ways to make power with small engines in recent years. So maybe we'll start hearing of failures as these cars age. I tend to keep my Toyotas until they wear out, so I have a tendency to think very long-term regarding vehicles.

I have both. 2004 4Runner and a 2015 F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. I love having both. The 4Runner is easier to drive around town and has a lot more character. The F150 is a lot more comfortable to drive (love the cooled seats). The towing capacity of the F150 is fantastic and turbo's make easy work of it. I have been considering getting rid of one, or both of them (Land Cruiser?), and it's not an easy decision. Both have their strong points. I love the 4Runner for wheeling here in Utah and its simplicity (no tech). I love the F150 for it's comfort, the truck bed, towing capability and technology in the truck. I don't have an answer for you, just some thoughts. Ultimately, it's your decision, choose wisely!
