2006 Sport V8 - New Owner

Just bought a 06 V8 Sport Edition...

It had high miles but I followed the advice from you guys and checked it out well before buying....

180,000 miles but is in very good condition....

I am giving the 4runner to my son who is 21 today. I am not a mechanic but I am having the following done....

-changing all fluids
-tune up including new spark plugs and wires
-remove xreas, add Bilstein and FJ Springs
-adding Matte gray TRD wheels
-added new Sony stereo with all new speakers

I bought it for 8500....

Thanks for all the help....

I will post some after pics when completed next week.

Thats the one at E motors in Anderson? Did you look underneath it? Ive stopped there and looked at a few different trucks. Most of which were very rusty...
Just be aware that the 4Runner you bought probably just came from New Jersey or Connecticut.
That aside, looks like a nice truck

Congrats on that find. What a great Dad... are you open for adoptions?
Hope he takes care of it and should last him a long time.

Nice dude(ette). I just got the same model but paid 18k (with tax) for the exact same car but with 55k miles. I overpaid.

8500 is a great price for this car. Enjoy it!

You are right....I had it put on a rack by my mechanic and he found some surface rust and he said even if we had a replace some things it was worth the price...frame was solid...it spent a lot of time in Virginia...may have been garage kept but was still exposed to the elements....based on price I felt I could spend some to correct any rust issues.....

Alright glad it looks okay, you had me concerned. I went and looked at a Tundra they had about 6 months ago, they or someone had painted the frame black, you could pull chunks out it near the rear.
You did great, thats a very nice truck with not to many miles in arguably the best color.

Nice ride. But 180k is just getting started with the 4.7...not really high miles. Should last for a long time!

Look up AIP bypass. Might wanna do ahead of time vs after you have issues. I can answer any questions you might have about it on PM so we don't hijack this thread. But good find and it should last him til 30

Just an FYI, these 4th Gens T4Rs have no spark plugs wires or distributor, each plug has a separate coil pack and the ECM controls the firing of the coils packs.

My first concern would be when was the last time the timing belt was replaced?

At 180,000 miles it is now due for replacement of the timing belt if it hasn't been done recently, the timming belt should be replaced every 90,000 miles, so it's due for the second replacement of the belt now, if you can't find positive documentation of it being done I would err on the side of caution and get it done, also it's recommend to replace the water pump at the same time as almost all of the same components have to be removed to do either and if you don't replace the water pump along with the timing belt and the water pump starts leaking it will lead to the new timing belt deteriorating rapidly and break which will do irreparable damage to the engine.

The timing belt replacement is a bit expensive but as mentioned it is a common/normal maintenance item at every 90,000, if done when needed along with other basic maintenance that T4R should go for over 300,000 miles easily, there are a few here with over 400,000 miles and even one that has over 500,000 miles on it!!

I have service records stating the timing belt and water pump were changed at 142...a bit over due but was done...

I decided to put new rotors and pads on also...just be be sure.

Thanks for the Info on the plugs...noted.

Thanks.
