Well, I think I'm ready to just bite the bullet on new tires/wheels for a number of reasons, but rubbing on the JBA UCAs is one of them. Currently have 285/70r17 Duratracs on 17" Sport wheels w/ 1.25" spidertrax spacers, and the rubbing is very much because of the sidewall tread on the Duratracs and the crappy offset of the factory wheels.

A buddy helped me take a few mm's of material off the UCAs where they are rubbing but they still rub. We're thinking we'll have to take a divot out instead of a clean line to have the tire clear. I've been wanting to ditch the spacers because I'm sick of taking them off every time I need to work on common things and then being OCD about torquing them (or god forbid a shop takes them off and then I have to go back and check their work after). These tires are at about 12-13/32's, so I'm seriously considering just being done with it and getting new wheels/tires.

That handy chart above lists

Quote:
LT285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") tire on 17 x 9 wheel, -12mm offset (4.50" backspace)

LT285/70R17 (32.7" x 11.2") tire on 17 x 8.5 wheel, -9mm offset (4.30" backspace)
There's a set of XD wheels that aren't god awful and have -6mm offset and 4.51" bs. Would that clear? I'm also super interested in the FN (f)x pro's but I think they are only 0 offset and 4.5" bs? I forget how offset numbers work...

Either of those will give you about an inch or more clearance, that will clear no problem.

So that's an inch or more over my current 1.25" spidertrax and Sport wheels?

What is the width of the rims you are deciding on?? That will come into play also!

Right! The XD ones are 8.5" and the FN ones are 8".

Stock wheels are ET30 (-30mm), -6mm nets you 24mm and 0 offset is 30 mm from stock. I would go with the 8 inch width to make sure, you are now adding an 1/2 inch (-12mm) back to stock. I have 1.5" Trail gear spacers with stock wheels and 255's and have a good inch clearance. I have switched (working on it) to FJ steelies to get another 15mm, going to switch to 275's soon.

I know on TW there were some guys that put 285's on stock wheels and rubbed (no sh*t right?) I think if you keep the tire width reasonable and run a wheel that has a better offset than stock you won't run into any issues.

I'm spare wheel shopping since I recently ordered a set of SCS Ray10s and don't want to pay $240 for a rim that's going to sit under my truck for 99% of it's life.

Would these dimension clear (for 285/70 17 tires) according to JBA's recommendations? I don't see 8" diameter wheel's listed in that list above, which is why I'm asking:

Pro Comp 97 Series Rock Crawler, 17x8 Wheel with 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern - Gloss Black - 97-7883 | 4wheelparts.com

Offset:-6
Backspacing:4.25

Thanks!

Anyone running 5th gen Trail wheels (+15 offset) and 285/70R17s with these? Will I need spacers?

Edit: Marlin said it won't clear by a measly .425" - guess I'll need Spidertrax if I go this route...hope they don't stick out too far.

How wide are those rims? I have 18" limited wheels from 07 and I think they're 25mm offset at 7.5" wide. I get rub at full lock with 255's but spacers make the tires rub on the mudflap so I took them off. Now I'm looking for some 17" Sequoia wheels which are +12mm offset on 7" wide. I think this will give me about .5" of clearance.

17x7.5 +15, it would add .39” for you. Might work if it clears the UCA. I’m pretty much guaranteed to take off the mudflaps and push the fender liner in and trim some bumper at this point....+15 offset + 1.25” spacers.
