Armor and rear tire carry options....

Ok so I think I’ve read everything humanly possible on the forum about rear bumpers, tire carriers etc.

What I want:
1. Rear tire carrier is my biggest priority.
2. Lightweight. Doesn’t need to be a full bumper by any means.
3. Higher clearance (exit angle, blah blah, ... )
3.a. Bring the rear hitch up higher (along with resume points)

I’ve looked at the Wilco option and it seems good with some mods, bring it in tighter. I don’t like how far out it sits initially. And I would love if followed the angle of then window a bit more, not straight vert. My last issue is if I’m going to spend what seems like about 1k on it why not get something a little more custom and that’s designed for the 4runner or built one myself.

So my question is what other options are there out there that I’m missing.... if anything. Thanks!

The only one that does all of that is the 4x4Labs one. Or design and build a custom one yourself.

You can also weld a swingout to the OEM rear crossmember but you will still lose some clearance and you would have to use the factory tow hitch.

With your list you have, not many out there like that and for 1k.

Just hit Luke up, 4x4labs. Hes local to you, and you can put his together for around that much!

Know what's funny...is I have the Wilco with a BUNCH of stuff added on to it. I've been on some trails with crazy approach angles in CA, AZ, NV, UT and CO and NEVER hit the Wilco. I hit the extension and D-ring I have in the Wilco hitch, but that's it. Now I wasn't doing any super duper Rubicon/Moab (tho I did do White Rim and other stuff) crazy rock crawling, but enough to say that whoever is worried about clearance on a Wilco shouldn't be. It's really not THAT bad. I have ZERO complaints about mine except I've reached the weight limit with all I've added on the single swing out.

So you can get the Wilco single arm with higher clearance for just holding a spare or like others said, call Luke at 4x4 Labs. He will be building my rear come Dec or Jan when he's caught up. My dual arms will be custom tho and I'm betting he sells a bunch once I give him my layout of what I want on them. A high clearance "expedition" type bumper. I hate the word overland.

use the SEARCH button. You can also use GOOGLE...

What I did was, print a couple pictures of other tire carriers, take those to a local fab shop and have them build you something.
Here is what I came up with:

I did what the poster above said. Sent some pics of the C4 fab bumper and modified lighting on the 4x4 Labs bumper and sent them to Luke. Sounds like he will do anything. I would just go to him since he is local and also has a 4th Gen 4Runner so he can likely mock it up with your truck not even being there.

No idea. But I'm betting it will be at least the price on his site and don't mind paying more for a custom option. Still need to talk to him on the phone next week to nail everything down. We just swapped a couple of emails.

sweet.. going with custom IF you can is soo much better, you get "exactly" what you want, sets your rig apart from the rest.
