Motor Oil Dipstick TUBE

Hey - I had to work the dip stick out of my dip stick tube and did so successfully. there seems to be a bit of rust or corrosion in the tube itself, and is making it so reading my oil level is difficult. has anyone ever replaced the dip stick tube or should i just have the dealer do it/ its only a $40 part it seems
so hopefully they wouldnt charge to much to replace it...either that or i have to just start being very accurate with changing my oil - since i cant depend on the dipstick??? my father in law (loves toyotas and is an united airlines mechanic) said i could spray some WD40 into the tube and it would be okay because of filters but i havent done that yet... thanks in advance.

I would see if you can take it off yourself and get some pipe cleaner/wire brush through it. I don't know how water could get in there besides maybe condensation buildup? Either way, I imagine it should be easy to remove and clean out. You could also try and push through a cleaning brush then immediately change the oil but it might not be great to have the potential of rust particles contaminating your oil. Just thinking aloud here but I would see if you can remove/clean youself. Good luck
