Thanks for the help. At least now I know what I need to do. I think I'm just gonna hit up a salvage yard, get the connector with the leads attached (another 5-6 inches), splice them together and use some heat shrink to make a water-tight connection.

Good luck finding what you need, I wrote the the bulbs are different with daytime running light or not, the bulbs are not different, what I meant to write was the sockets and housings are different, I have since edited my earlier post to correct that.

My 2007 is more of a problem now with turn signals. (work great in the rain??)
Dealership quoted me over $2,000 for the entire harness. Seems the short harness is not available. They tell me they can get the turn signal socket, time to look for part numbers. fun times.

Maybe water and road salts are getting into the housing and causing corrosion of the socket, what does the socket look like now?

thanks for asking, have not inspected it yet, but needless to say i've done very little driving in the last 6 weeks. In that time frame there's been no road salt in use, and i would say i've driven in rain a handful of times.

maybe i'll just chalk it up to annual maintenance...

Yes I'm sure with all that going on in our world today you might not have driven it much lately...but from reading your post the "new socket" is over one year old and did see the road during much of the winter so if the seals on the blinker housing are bad it very possible that some slushy road snow/road salt could have gotten inside and started some corrosion and once corrosion starts it continues even if no more slush got in and eventually the corrosion will build up to the point you lose connection in the socket, which is my guess, but the only way to know for sure is to take the socket out and inspect it and the bulb for corrosion.

the Toyota part # 81125-35440, is called headlamp Cord per Toyota. I used the same number when looking up Amazon.

those new harnesses are holding up fine, maybe 2 years now. One is Toyota, One is Amazon, no problems.

there appears to be no deterioration of the components. I wonder if the wire hook-up into the back of the socket is the culprit

Even with no corrosion, you could still have a lack of connection between the bulb and socket contacts, or where the socket seats into the housing, if I'm not mistaken the socket connection to the housing creates the "ground" completing the circuit, so it could be any of these causing the issue, as well as you suggested the wires going into the socket, there also could be an issue with any other connections between the socket wiring and the main wiring harness.
