Rear axle swap. Need help getting speedometer to work

Hi everyone.

I am new to the forum.

I just did a ford 9 inch rear axle swap with deaver leaf springs. after doing the swap i noticed i lost the speed sensors on the axle and i now dont have a working speedometer or odometer. Anyone else run into this issue and have some answers to fix this?

I would be surprised if it was possible to get it to work.

The wheel speed sensors are why junkyard axle swaps aren't common, no speedometer, no stability control, no ATRAC. Custom axles can be built to keep the stock bearings/hubs from Currie, ECGS, or Diamond.

I would contact Marlin Crawler and see if they have a way of doing it. If it was possible, it would be from taking a reading from the t-case area somehow I would imagine.

I’m sure if you find out the resistance values for the original speed sensors, you could wire in some wheel speed sensors. At least that should take care of the speedometer and odometer. Can’t tell you if it’ll fix the lack of stability control or ATRAC, if you have it.

I hadn't thought of that, I was overcomplicating things. The stock sensors could probably be plugged back in (if you still have the factory harness) and routed back up to the body out of the way. Or like mentioned above maybe you just need the resistance values.

As for VSC and ATRAC, you don't really need it. If you're offroading you'll want a locker, it might suck without ATRAC depending on what exactly you'll be driving over.

I ended up finding out how to make it work. I did an Fj T-case swap and put in a mechanical sensor with a worm gear setup and tapped it into the ECU. Works perfect. Wasnt too worried about ABS, Traction Control, or any of the fancy stuff. Im currently doing an SAS and just caged the truck. And i have a spooled rear end and detroit front locker so even if i kept all the sensors they wouldnt work right because of the spool.
