Key Issue

Hello Everyone! Merry Christmas! My first post so please forgive anything I do incorrectly and thank you in advance for any help you can provide. I bought my wife a 2005 4Runner Limited 4WD White. While test driving the car, I always entered it by using the fob to unlock the door. Days later (once the car was mine) I tried unlocking the door with the key. No go. I rolled down the back windows with the fob and tried to roll up the window with the key. No go. They won’t even turn at all. I’m assuming something probably went wrong with ignition on this 4Runner at some point and they swapped it out which I imagine was costly. The question is, what should I do, get a second key cut that will open the door and roll up the window? Think I can get someone to adjust those locks to match the working ignition key? I really don’t want two keys if I can avoid it. Suggestions? Thank you!

A locksmith MIGHT be able to key the door/hatch locks to the ignition key you have, BUT he may need to have a key that will work the door locks to do so,or maybe not, the only way to find out is to go and ask a locksmith that's experienced in auto locks.

If u pull the lock the assembly from the driver’s door , there is a key code engraved on it. An auto locksmith can cut u a new key using that code.
This will work on the door, hatch and glove compartment.
It may not work in the ignition if they dicked around with it.
So you’ll have to carry both keys around.

Would be interested to know what key you got at the time of purchase. Was it a master key or a valet key?

The master key has a black head, while the valet key has a gray head (and usually with a small metal code/tag attached).
