Our AAA insurance office used to make those but not anymore
Alternatives:
Find "Credit Card Spare Key on amazon, OR
Have duplicate key made, cut-out approx shape out of old credit car, put key in, secure both sides with packaging tape, or
I just wear mine around my neck while mountaineering, kayaking ,sailing, running, getting thrown in pool by drunk friends....

Toyota components are bullet-proof. Issues often arise from poor wiring, assembly and/or maintenance. Suspect those first.
Next only to our senses, the multi-meter is the most important electrical diagnostic tool. Spend $6 at Harbor Freight or $$$ blindly replacing parts.

I was able to get a hardware store key cut exactly like described here. It opens the doors and the hatch, but won't activate the starter because there's no magic chip in the key.

When did you get a 4Runner? Welcome aboard!

Uh, THE Murph??? Lol - small world, buddy. Believe it or not, I sold the Land Cruiser - getting too crippled and blind to work on it, so she went to a new owner. Picked up the 4Runner in December up in Rockford - its the new "work truck". Still here, still alive and kicking..

I didn't know where to put my key while I was playing sports. Thanks for the hint that it can be worn around the neck, as I did as a child. And this thing for keys that fits in your wallet is also a great thing. However, in this case, you need to keep your wallet in a safe place. I have a Gucci wallet like this, you can read about Maurielle's experience in this blog and you'll find my wallet there. So I wonder if this device for keys will go into this wallet and where I can order this one. Anyway, thank you for sharing these tips.

One potential issue though. Any idea what happens if the battery dies?
If the battery dies, the key only opens the driverís door. You have to manually unlock the other doors from inside the car. You also cannot ďautomaticallyĒ lock all 4 doors with a dead battery.

I donít know if you can open the hatch or not with a dead battery.

I lost my house key once. I swore I put it in my bag! I wasn't sure whether it was lost or stolen. So I always don't know where to put(or hide) my keys. Until I read Dhana's review on a Hermes bag, I know that I can hide the keys in the clochette (a charm hanging outside of the bag) while very convenient to use whenever you want to use the keys. Seriously, every handbag should have those key holders disguised as tiny charms, so that nobody will lose her keys again.
