5100s and FJ coil problem. Very bouncy.

My wife has a 05 sr5 4runner. The front stunts were worn out so I decided to replace them. They were the factory struts with fj coils with a Daystar budget boost spacer. The front fenders measured 38” from the ground. I purchased the 5100s and new kyb top mounts and reused the fj coils. I put the clip on the second setting .85”. Was hoping it would put the front end around 37” because it was a little nose high. I installed the 5100s and the fenders measured 40” and it bounces like crazy. It just seems like something is off. I’m wondering if the 5100s are bad or the fj coils just need to be replaced since they are old. Any ideas? This is for my wife and it’s a 2wd, it’s just for city/Hwy driving. Was wanting to get something a little bit more comfortable, which is why I bought the 5100s because I’ve heard great things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Post a pic of the spring and shock assembled. It may have been assembled incorrectly.

Yup looks like you’ve got the bottom spring hat on upside down. I’m guessing you also got about 5” of lift instead of the expected 2”? That’s dangerous and should be corrected prior to any driving. That spring is extremely compressed and the strut as you have it assembled is dangerous.

Yea I knew something wasn’t right. Yea I haven’t driven it since right after install. I knew it couldn’t be right so I didn’t drive it. Yea I didn’t think I should have gotten that much lift out of it. Thank you so much for your help. With the fj springs at the .85” setting should level it out right?

Thank you for getting back to me and helping me get this fixed. Man I was stressing out on why it was like this. Got the bottom spring hat flipped like it’s supposed to be and now it is sitting level. And it rides awesome. Way better than the factory struts with 200k on them. Thanks again!
