Well now that I thought I had everything sorted out, I’ve noticed my HVAC display screen no-longer has backlight, all the switches do. Just the screen is not backlit. Unfortunately the truck is new to me so I dont remember if it worked prior to radio install, but I’m fairly certain it did.

I'm in the middle of this system installation and the sound it produces is simply awesome! The bass hits hard and the highs are really high. I have the JBL system with RDS so the sub in the back has come alive!

So now I've discovered that the center dash speaker is blown. I've removed it in the hopes of finding a replacement. Someone said that it is the same speaker as the upper door speakers, including the frame. Let me what options are available for this spot.

Can i ask someone to post up a picture of google map and other android apps on their screen please? I'm assuming that I can see some of these apps on the HU but so far I'm not seeing anything. I should read the owner's manual some more!

I'll look through the EWD to find a reverse light circuit near the dash area to tap into. I don't have a camera yet but figured on doing this while the dash was all apart!

Common for them to go out when pulling the hvac controls.

if you search you can find the part numbers needed. I would buy extra lights too. I had more go out when I replaced them.

Dealer printed me out the part numbers for the hvac lights, however they only had 1 in stock. Luckily half of it turned back on after a couple finger taps =D. Your right though, now my rear window button light doesn't work.

If some of the lights came back on by tapping with your finger you most likely bumped some of the connectors for the lights during your radio install, I would check all the connectors to ensure they're making a good connection, some may need to be unplugged and or untwisted and reconnected because of dirt/corrosion and or vibrations causing them to develop a poor connection over the years.

I just want to chime in to say Crutchfield truly is awesome. I bought a refurb Kenwood DX 9702s from them in 2016 and when I brought it Bestbuy for installation (along with a backup cam), the installer told me the unit wouldn't turn on and was defective.
Crutchfield did not have any other DX9702s in stock since it was last year's model. They replaced it with a DX9703s brand new!
Only con with the Kenwood is the lack of a volume knob for me.
After seeing OP's setup, I'm gonna replace the cigarette lighter by the gear shifter with a dual USB port. I currently have the USB cable coming out from behind the glovebox.

Nice post!

With that service from crutchfield it would save me about $600 over what a local shop quoted me if I installed myself.

They have a dual USB with a voltmeter on Amazon that I have. Easy to install too. There's a write-up my build thread.

some update from my install, in no particular order.

- this is truly a plug n play system once you order the stuff that I mentioned previously.

- I had to update the firmware using an USB stick, no biggy.

- Neither CarPlay, nor Android Auto will work wirelessly. This isn't a big deal for me but maybe for some folks. I spoke to a Crutchfield tech support.

- My plan is to get one of the USB plugs, maybe a circular one, and place it permanently below the hazard button. This will be a dedicated USB plug only for CarpPlay or AA and/or charging duties. I'll leave the current USB/cig lighter option for charging duties.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072KGMJ5N...v_ov_lig_dp_it

- I used both CP & AA yesterday and I gotta tell you that CarPlay GUI is far better than AA GUI.

The Crux kit also has a connector for connecting your factory OEM rear view camera to this Sony HU. FYI. It really is a great kit and totally worth the money.

I have replaced all speakers with Rockford from amazon, including the rear sub and it sounds amazing.

Would you mind providing more info on this? I have an 06 limited with OEM rear camera and just installed this HU with the Crutchfield kit. I noticed the "OEM Camera Power" wire and did not connect it for now as I didn't know where to wire it up to. I get "No signal" when I select rear view camera in the HU. If I just wire the camera to power will it work or is there a separate harness I need to order? Is it 12V? Thanks!

I'll have to take a pic which will help you visualize what I'm about to say.

The Crux kit (more detailed part # up above where i detailed the content of my order) came with couple of extra harnesses that I didn't use. One of them is for OEM camera, meaning, this hanress has the correct connector that'll allow you to plug your OEM camera into this harness. This harness then takes your oem connector and convert it to RCA plugs (left/right) that you plug into the back of the Sony HU. I don't have an oem camera so I don't really know what kind of camera wiring your vehicle has! Hope that made some sense!

just as a heads up, there is a way to get rid of that warning screen that you have to touch to get to the main menu:

YouTube

did that, and it makes everything that much better

i love my HU. it was the first thing i did when i got my truck

Ahh ok I believe we got different wiring kits. Makes sense why I didn't see that. I have the PAC RP4.2-TY11 Wiring Interface and put it into a car with stock Nav. There were 2 or 3 unconnected OEM connections so I assume maybe one of them is the backup cam but not sure. Definitely nothing in my wiring kit involving RCA.

I looked up your kit on Crutchfield and I see what you mean. I see two RCA jacks but I bet they're for AUX, not for camera. That sucks dude.
