2009 trans shudder

Hi guys. I picked up an '09 Sr5 rwd with 150,000 miles in December. I've noticed that in low speeds the truck will shudder or shake. It usually only happens when I'm going between 15-30 miles an hour. If I'm at a light then take off I don't get it but If I'm behind a car and they are driving slow it will do it or if I'm taking a turn and have to slow down and then speed up it will do it. When it does it it will go away if I get off on the gas or give it more gas. I'm kinda used to it but not a fan of it either. My question is if their is any maintenance I can do to help it? I plan on changing the transmission fluid but don't know what else I should do. Thanks in advanced

this his a real experience, though it may not apply to your situation. i am driving a 2007 sr5 v6. in family since new. before i took it over, say over the past 50k miles, i would notice the "shudder". sometime accelerating on a straight, but most often trying to accelerate up hills at lower speeds.

i read about the trans fluid possibility, and the anti-shudder additive.

i haven't done those yet. however, it had had only regularly scheduled conventional oil changes. for the first time, i did a full synthetic oil change.
i haven't experienced the shudder since (maybe a couple of thousand miles since). if you are using conventional oil, why not try a synthetic first. inexpensive possibility, and probably better for the engine anyway.

Ok thanks. I plan on replacing all fluids with synthetic so hopefully that'll fix it. I've only had the truck a couple months. I love it just not wild about the shudder.

Do you know if the transmission fluid ever been changed in it? Could be your driveline needs to be lubed as well.

I picked up my '08 with 196k miles last August had some high-speed shudder that I only noticed after I bought it. I had the pan dropped and a fluid exchange done by a local shop I trust. None of the maintenance records I have for it mentioned a transmission fluid change so we're guessing that the fluid that was in it was original. When I picked it up at the shop they said that the fluid was in such bad shape they're worried that I'll need a transmission rebuild at some point. They added some Shudder Stop as well as some additional lubricants and my shudder went away.

and when i say conventional oil changes, i'm referring to only engine oil. i switched to synthetic only during the last change. trans fluid is original.

i had transmission shudder like you mention. I tried a flush & filter change, and used toyota WS fluid, it didnt change the shudder, i dropped the pan for that as a precaution incase any fines since i had just brought at 195k with little or no service history (but it generally purred). I used shudder fix tube (one) and the major shudder gone almost instantly.

the torque convertor now tends (maybe my imagining) to lock up little earlier and i feel it wants to rev less and drop gears earlier, but there is no rumble strip effect at that same spot in the rev range.

I'd recommend a full flush. I did a full swap at 160k. Shifting got smoother and I didnt see any adverse affects.

ATF Exchange (using the cooling line)
