I picked up a set of the Auxbeam LEDs for my lows a few months ago. They are a big improvement over the stock lights, much brighter. However, the throw is not as far as the old halogens, and the buzzing of the fans when I'm stopped with the engine off drives me nuts. So, Im working on whether to go with HIDs or maybe the GTR Ultra 2s. Ive heard really good reports on the the GTR Ultra's.
Swampdodo - how are the fan noise on those?

Fogs added

I also purchased the the led for the drl/turn signals. I have not installed yet.
Thanks to formidable for the info.
I also added these fogs last night: Amazon.com: Alla Lighting 3800lm Xtreme Super Bright 9006 LED Bulbs Fog Light High Illumination ETI 56-SMD LED 9006 Bulb HB4 9006 Fog Lights Lamp Replacement - 3000K Amber Yellow: Automotive
I don't use my fogs often, really only in fog and snow. Had snow this morning and I was pleased with the combination of yellow fogs and the new Auxbeams.

On my wife's CRV with the Ultra 2's...with the engine running of course you don't hear anything. With the engine off and hood closed, I didn't notice anything. With the hood open, I can barely hear the fans...no buzzing or vibration...just ever so slight fan sound.

Maybe its just me.. The GTR Ultras seem to be pretty bright, how is the distance on those compared to the Auxbeams?

I've recently gotten rid of my Auxbeam lights that I bought for the Fogs and high beams and gone back to Halogen bulbs.

First, the fogs had no cutoff whatsoever and were blinding to drivers at night... I replaced them with some Vosla 9006 +120 bulbs from: VOSLA 9006 +120 "Super Brite Light"

Significantly better cutoff and much less glare from rain so I'm able to see the road markings instead of glare from the Auxbeam LEDs. The color of these bulbs, as well as the better cutoff, make these significantly better than the Auxbeams.

For high beams, I went with some Phillips 9011 HIR bulbs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00480J5CW

Here's a link with more information on HIR bulbs and how to modify them to fit: HIR bulb base modification

These bulbs have a significantly better hot spot and throw light much further down the road than the Auxbeams. The warmer color of these bulbs makes them much better in rainy weather than the cold LEDs as well. The LEDs look better due to our propensity to favor foreground light, but sight distance is much more important for high beams than just about anything else.

I’ve done a fair amount of research over the past week or two (whilst planning a projector retrofit) and have decided against plug and play led bulbs in the stock H11 projectors. Nothing wrong with them, really I just want more...well that and I’m not really a fan of the 6000+k color temp most led chips used produced. Interestingly enough H9 halogens actually put out more intensity (and thus distance and foreground) than the Diode Dynamic SL1 bulbs. I’ve run these for a while and thought they were a pretty good upgrade, although they do burn out way quicker than the standard H11s

On the whole, it seems Diode Dynamics is a decent choice because they are engineered to closely mimic halogen lighting patterns of their intended housings. Different projectors/reflectors have different fitment/placement/intensity requirements for the chips and they seem to actually take this into consideration. In fact, their SLF 9006 fog bulbs intentionally limit the output in order to avoid blowing/washing out the foreground. Their 3000k yellow bulbs are actually yellow too instead of that weird green tint a lot of yellow LED bulbs have since their chips aren’t just 6000+k with a yellow coating...excellent if you like the yellow look. I’ve looked into putting these into my stock fogs but I really want to get some Stage Series 3 units down ...maybe once I get my retro project done.

I’ve also been running the 9011 HIRs for quite a while (and haven’t burnt them out yet) and they are by far the greatest bang for buck lighting upgrade for us imo. It seems quality LED units still give a greater overall intensity/hotspot/distance but you can’t go wrong with these, especially for the price. I haven’t quite picked out what I want but I may give the 9005 SL1s a go...or just keep my 9011 HIRs.

Just installed these last night and I can say they are awesome. Still retains the factory cutoff fairly well, and there is hardly any glare from them. My only complaint would be I wished I had found some that were less than 6500K.

The kind with the projector at the end? Seems like they'd be useful!

No, mine don't have a projector, but they do have 3 large LEDs on the tip facing directly rearward once installed.

Ah gotcha, I linked one with the projector I'm probably gonna try out.

Hey Drift Monkey,

I recently added these to my 4Runner. They do not have a projector at the end, as you want, but there has been quite a bit of improvement. For example; when backing up at night, and looking at the backup camera in the dash display, everything is more noticable than before. The LED backup lights paired with LED plate lights help a lot!
