Rear bearings/pinion seal
So I began to notice a noise coming from the rear end of my 06 … you know the noise all terrain tires start to make as they wear down? Kind of like that, but associated more with RPM (when in drive) instead of speed. So I took it in to the local shop that I know and trust … diagnosis, both rear bearings are bad and the rear pinion seal is leaking. I'd seen small spots of fluid on the ground around the rear differential the last couple of days, so the rear pinion seal leaking didn't surprise me … but the wheel bearings did.
The 06 has just over 290K miles on it. It was also involved in a minor (at least from a cosmetic perspective) rear end collision in January of this year. I'm just wondering how common it is for both wheel bearings to go out at the same time? Any chance that it's related to the accident or purely an age/mileage issue? Thoughts?
