My (wife's) 2003 4runner V6 RWD

Wife got it from her mother about 7 years ago, I DD it as she doesn't like driving an SUV. I love this thing, it's a nearly perfect car/truck. There are a number of things I'd like to sort out with it and questions I have if the group would entertain me.

I'd like to put a toyota electronic locker in the rear end. I don't think I need 4WD, and if I did I'd sell this 4runner and buy the same thing in a 4WD flavor but if I can swap a locker in the back and put it on KO2s then I'm pretty sure everywhere I want to go I'll be fine. Is this just the 8" Toyota electronic locker from the Tacoma/4runner in that period?

Seats are starting to get blown out, I saw that BMW seat swap thread but I'm thinking of either trying to fit Volvo S60 seats or Corbeau Sport Seats and wiring up the seat heaters!

Gotta fix the radio too but that's going to be complicated bullshit, especially if I want to get the steering wheel controls working.

I don't think the Elocker will be a straight swap, the parts should fit but I don't believe there will be any wiring back there or behind the dash. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the Urban runner was the only 4th gen to come with this option for 2008-09.

Radio is easy, especially if it's not a JBL model. PAC sells a module to add steering controls to aftermarket unit. Works great in mine with a Pioneer touchscreen.

Interested in the seat swap info!

I believe a rear locker out of a FJ or Tacoma would work...
Dont hold me to that, someone here will chime in if I'm wrong.

Low Range Off Road sells wiring harnesses for these, give em a call

i have a feeling this will go the direction of 'you might as well shop for a 4x4' like you somewhat mentioned. could be wrong.

It's certainly a major consideration, but for now at least this 4runner is a bit rough (came out from dinner one night to find a tweaker dancing on the hood, rust on the right rear quarter, and a dent in the right front quarter). I don't care about any of that but it means I won't get as much selling the thing as I'll need to spend to get the 4x4 I want and the cost differential of about $5k is enough to mean I might as well look into locking up the rear. I don't need 4x4 but it would be nice for some places I go.

Thanks for the reference 4RunnerMexico.

I just put a BOSS double din touch screen in my 2005 SR5 with the install kit from Auto Zone. Actually went fairly simple, as the wire codes are listed, (but I still checked balance and fade before finalizing the connections). Currently working on installing the back up camera, ( Radio already set up for it). Those run a little over $200.00. I also seen the steering wheel control hook up option, but, don't have the steering wheel controls. Also tons of info online to wire the steering controls.

Having said all that, you got me thinking with the BMW seat upgrades.....
