Volant Cold Air Intake

Anyone have any experience with Volant cold air intake from Burtman industries? I didnt want the K&N Cold air intake since it was open in the engine bay, but the Volant air intake seems to be more enclosed utilizing the stock oem airbox entrance.

I have it in my 05’ V8. Sounds great, can’t say much for any performance enhancements but paired with my Magnaflow catback it makes the truck sound pretty mean!
I do like that it is enclosed rather than open. It does draw all the fresh air from the wheel well rather than the engine bay.
Only issue I had was where the main “pipe” entered the air box.
Wasn’t a very tight fit, but I rigged up a rubber/foam pc that made it fit nice and tight.

I believe AFE was the manufacture of the original TRD air intakes. I have the AFE... like the look, fit and sound. But a CAI doesn't do much but make noise. slight performance gains at WOT

URD sells the AFE

aFe drop in filter is all thats needed. Stock airbox does an amazing job with just a simple drop in filter and the HCF removal mod. Everything else is waste of money IMHO.

Agreed, which is why I went that route myself. There really isn’t much improvement to be had over the stock arrangement, other than removal of the HCF as you mentioned and a good drop in filter. Anything else I’ve seen either just adds heat to your intake air (hurts performance), or just makes more noise. I have found though that some people do aftermarket intakes just for the sound, which is fine if that’s your goal, just don’t expect it to make your vehicle faster.

Haven't poked around, but do the OEM V8 airboxes have a kinked elbow into the fender like 3rd-gens did?

Gadget (URD) dynoed a drop-in filter in a stock airbox, opened up stock airbox (deckplate mod without the deckplate) and a stock airbox with the fender elbow removed on his supercharged 3rd-gen, the dyno runs in 3rd gear had identical peak increases with either modified airbox vs a stock airbox, and a power loss with a K&N "filter on a stick" hot air intake LOL

I have the voliant intake, The previous owner put it on but I will be installing the stock Intake system because I trust the stock paper filters more than the cold air intake cotton cone filters. Sounds great at WOT, But since I offer Road and Dusty environments often, it’s not worth it for me

I bought a Volant kit for sound and appearance because I wasnt fully satisfied with my silencer delete.

I do like the sound, a lot. However, I feel like the Volant kit is massively overpriced for the materials/fit/finish.you're using essentially self-tappers into plastic that isnt pre-drilled to mount your maf, the mounting holes on the bottom of my airbox didnt align with the bolt holes, and there is no drain hole anywhere in the bottom of my airbox.

Most of this I plan to do something about, but I probably wouldve second-guessed the purchase if I had seen one in person beforehand.

Overall I'm happy with it I guess, I dont feel slighted, but I'm also not infatuated with it. The sound it makes gives me a smile, and that's what I wanted. plus it looks good, as long as you dont look too close.
