I got my hands on a set of Tundra OE towhooks, thought Id see if I could figure a way to mount them to my 4th gen. These things are beefy and look much stronger than the 4th gen stockers.
I was thinking I could cut off the factory ones, and either mount them in the same orientation as the stock ones only with one bolt instead of two. The core support isn't as wide as the tow hook mounting surface is. Would one large grade 8/10 bolt with a large nut/washer above be sufficient compared to the stock hook? Stock hook just seems it would break off or bend if it were tugged on hard enough.
Also noticed I could mount them on the side of the core support using the one threaded hole that's already there and the drilling another above, the existing one doesn't line up.
May not be worth it, and it may mess up the approach angle.
Just a thought since these things were free.
