JBA clearance issues

Hey all,

Just wondering what my best course of action is to get some more clearance from the bit of rubbing I’m getting on the JBA UCA. I wrongly assumed that my 285/70 duratracs on sport wheels with spidertrax spacers would clear better than this.

Granted that’s at almost full lock with me getting out to take a picture. Do I have to start saving for new wheels? That would be a bummer since I just had these hunter road force balanced. Would I be looking at wheels with massive offset so I could get rid of these spacers?

I do off-road this truck (not rock crawling by any means) and that rub has me a little concerned.

I see this issue seems to happen a lot, is this a problem with SPC UCAs as well or just JBA?

Also have you thought about trimming some of the JBA metal off ? Just an idea

I also had rubbing issues with my JBA UCA's in the same spot. I have 285/75/17 ST Maxx with 17x8/4.5" BS wheels. Marlin told me I could grind a little bit of the gusset down or he could send me wheel spacers or I could return the UCA's for a full refund. I opted for 3/4" spacers and it clears now.

If you still have stock wheels, might be a good excuse to get aftermarket wheels with the proper backspacing to clear

So, I had the eBay uniball knock offs before this and had no rub after I put on the Spidertrax, but I can't speak to the SPCs.

Good to know! As much as I want properly backspaced wheels and not have to deal with my spacers every time I have to service something, I *just* spent around $100 to get these all Hunter Road Force balanced. Granted their used tires, so I think I'll budget in new wheels when these wear out in another year or so, but I'm going to opt for the grind option I think. Something about putting another spacer on a spacer freaks me out.

Did he mention how much you can grind off before it becomes a problem? I'd like to grind it while it's still on there so I don't have to do the whole installation over again.

Thanks!

Hit CL and get a set of 5th gen wheels, 15mm less offset then the 4th gen. They look nice on the 4th gen too.

like these.

That's been an option for a while since they're regularly listed for $400 or so, but I'd rather put that $400 toward a wheel set that will let me ditch the spacers too.

Check out CL and Offerup. I bought a set of the early 5th gens wheels for a $100. I've seen them for $200 on Offerup. I ordered a single wheel on Ebay for $50+ shipping for the spare tire. I like my wheels and don't want to run spacers, but I want the JBA's. Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but I would need to do some grinding or go with another brand. I'm on the fence.

No body mount rubbing after I had a proper alignment. This is just a small amount of rub on the very front of the UCA collar.

bit of an older thread, and I'm also on a bit of a larger tire, however, I see the same rubbing issue with my 315/70R17 tire on a 17x9 -12 wheel.

No issues with the factory UCA, but the JBA has a bit more of a kick-out before making the turn to the upper balljoint so there is a bit more interference.

No sure if I want to just let it be, or install spacers again.. (though the spidertrax 1.25" may be a bit too aggressive) It starts rubbing just prior to full lock and rubs pretty aggressively.

What brand tires do you have? Marlin told me 315 70 17 there will be .25” clearance to it. And im planning buying same size tires. Now im not sure anymore.
