V8 4wd Tcase Actuator Motor Part Number???

So hurricane florence ruined my 4wd. In order to get back into Wilmington to start helping people out, I had to drive thru a lot of flooded streets which allowed water to get into my actuator thru the crack vent hose that I had no idea about.

Due to this the 4wd actuator stopped working. Ive pulled it apart, got everything loose, gears spin freely and the motor itself works when I send it power. As soon as I put the first gear on it, the motor gets locked up.

My only guess is that the motor is weak. Does anyone have the actual part number for the dc motor? Or does someone believe it could be something else?

This place has it for about half the price.

Are these the same for both the 5 speed transmission and 4 speed that was mated to the 03 and 04 V6? I was looking at that part number for my 04 V6 and now I'm thinking it might not be the correct part for me.

Just buy the Aisin one off Rockauto.com. Its literally the exact same one that you get from Toyota just not in a Toyota box. Aisin is the the OEM manufacture. I got mine from RockAuto. Install is pretty easy. maybe 4 hours if you know how to turn a wrench. Drop the T case, split it, R&R the actuator and put it back together.

Yeah $480 is even better. I would buy that one too.

I just hate going thru the big process of dropping the tcase and splitting it when the 4lo function is still operable.
Any have an old sitting around with a working actuator motor they’d be willing to part with?

Is the V8 and the V6 the same part? If so, how? Everywhere I look the numbers are the same.

That's a good point. If only 4lo or 4hi isn't working, could you just replace the motor?

AISIN SAT017 is the part on RockAuto. $164.

I'm seeing the same thing. They all have the same Tcase actuator number.

If all the actuator is doing is selecting 4WD then it should work for both the 4 speed and 5 speed transmission.

How does that work if the v8 is full time fwd and the 6 is selectable.

That is a great question. Maybe 2Hi is locked out on the V8 since there is no selector for it on the dash? It would be cheaper for Toyota to make the parts the same and have the switch set up so 2Hi can't be selected.

Looking at RockAuto, I see these options for the trucks:
V8: Aisin SAT003
V8: Standard Motor Products J78004

V6: Standard Motor Products J78004

I don't know why the SMP products are the same, but Aisin SAT003 isn't listed for the V6. If I ever replace mine, I'll call my local dealership first and have them verify the correct part number for my VIN.

I wish there was a way to confirm this.. Ive looked at the dealer parts websites and cross referenced the part numbers and they all appear to be the same. But I can see your explanation for the switch being possible. It would be like the v6 only ever switching from 4hi to 4lo.

Went and took a little video of the problem. When the gear is pressed in all the way it locks up. in the video, my finger is just helping it stay in position then allowing it to fall a little so it can spin. Ignore all the goop, its a lot of white lithium grease to try and get it going.
