ATF Temp check...ScangaugeII versus jumper method versus infrared thermometer
Just tested this on a 05 V8, and a 08 V8 with the 5 speed sealed trannies. 32 degree day.
Used the Fluid Temperature check procedure by connecting CG4 and CG13 per the factory procedure. You know the deal, hook up the jumper turn off all the power robbers, fire it up, move it from N-D 4 or 5 times till you see the A/T oil light come on for 2 seconds then put it park and wait, and wait.
When the A/T oil temp light came on after idling for a 20 minutes or more, I hooked up the scanguage II and it read 96 degrees on both(compared to the 97 degree start point for the procedure. Close enough for me.
crawled under truck shot the transmission pan with the ennologic eT6500 it was 92-93 degrees.
Conclusion: all three will get the job job done, and it was nice to get confirmation that the scanguage II is 100% effective for this use, or a infrared thermometer.
