Thumbs up Official T4R 18" All-Terrain Tire Thread - Help Wanted!!

Ok here is the deal, as many of you may already know finding 18" AT tires is no easy task. Most of the brands are a no-go. I have the OME lift installed and have been having a tough time picking out the right tires for the 18" OEM limited rims which are 7.5" wide. I will most likely go with the 1.25" Spidertrax spacers as well.

The truck will be used during the week doing a lot of highway miles traveling between my sales accounts. With this in mind gas mileage and road noise carry some importance in my decision. I don't want a mud-terrain but having a solid off-road tire that won't leave me stranded is important. After selling my old jeep I would still like to have something to get back into the woods and mud.

I am not really wanting to trim very much for 285s but they are on the list just in case since the BFGs are a little smaller than a full 33". BFG ATs were on my last Tundra so I am familiar with their characteristics. However the 285/60 Nittos seem very interesting since they aren't as tall as a 285/65, but are nearly as wide. My only concern is trying to install them or the BFG 285 on a 7.5" rim. Is this a definite no-no since they recommend a minimum of 8"??

Any opinions would be appreciated!

I'd go with the 265 BFG's, but if the 285 will fit then go with them...

I have michelin 275 55 18's on my trd 18" wheels. If your doing a lot of highway miles, stick with the 265's.

285's will add to the rolling resistance, and the tread has to do more work to displace the volume of water when it rains.

But, if you want that wide track stance, and can minimize the amount of trimming you have to do, go for the 285s.

Just my 2cents.

Given your job I'd go with the 265 Nittos. I love mine both on and off road.

I am interested in the outcome of this poll for my own reference as well. I still have quite a bit of time before I will be replacing the stock rubber, however, it can't hurt to do some research in advance.

I like the tread pattern of the Coopers, but I think they would be fairly loud at highway speeds. For an AT tire, I think the BFG's are a good choice. Many people have run these tires and had good results.

I have no experience with either of these on my 4runner, however, I have run the BFG's on other vehicles and they have performed quite well.

285/65R18 wont fit according to 4Wheelparts- even ordered and tried to install them and they said no go. Any suggestions or answers why would be a big help because these are the ones I would like to use also- I'm putting them on 18x9s with a Revtek and 1.25" bodylift.

They fit- 4wheel parts was afraid to cut anything. It required only minor trimming of the well liner- no visible cutting- even of the corner edge of the well! Ride great! I love em- ride looks meaner than ever!

Wow it's a thread revival! You're not going to get those rubbers to work on your 18"er's. The 7.5" wheel is just too narrow when these tires are coming with a narrower sidewall which doesn't allow enough flex for it to sit in and create a proper bead with the wheel. The tire manf. list the wheel width ranges for a reason, however I'm sure they probably also do provide for a margin of safety as well. If the 285 is a no go, look at the 275's, they're most likely to be able to work.

STT's, why use 265's when you can fit 285's. Plus they look badass compared to your other choices. I like the looks of the Goodyear MT/R's also, not sure if you can get them in 18's though.

Update: Well after the 1.25" body lift , 285/65/18's fit without a problem!- even kept the mudflaps on- just needed to cut about 3" off the bottom inside wheel well liner but not the corner of the body. Looks really good. I'll post pics when I can.
