Tranny fluid story continues

So I enter the dealership and just for **its and giggles I ask a service guy for a quote, change fluid, gasket, clean the pan.

Price............... $ 883.00 no kidding. It took a lot for my to keep my cool as I am a little angry at how America has become, but I did say "Your out of your mind" and I laughed and walked away.
Went to the parts department got the price and parts person quoted me the day before. $ 6.10 a quart.

Lots of redaction, didn't know if calling out stealerships was a no no.

Don't hold back on calling out any dealership, garage, parts supplier or the parts themselves, this is how we all help each other on this forum from getting ripped off, knowledge of any business trying to rip someone off is good for all to know and serves the bussiness right for trying and or doing so!!

I just had my tranny flushed today at the dealership. Just a flush, no dropping the pan. Price was $206.00. Dealer had a spring service special, 40% off. Orginal quote was $329.88. 03, V6, 4 speed. 230k miles.

That’s an excellent price, but I’d be leery of doing a flush with the powered pump as they do at the dealership on an older, high mileage vehicle. I’ve read in the past that it can actually dislodge sediment and stuff that can do more harm than good on an older trans. Most of the methods described on this forum involve just using the internal circulation pump to exchange the fluid in small quantities like 3 quarts at a time to avoid these issues. Hopefully it will be fine for you, and what I mentioned is just internet folklore!

Terminator03 That used to be the case for American transmissions back in the day. Toyota transmissions are well built as long as you take care of them. For my service, the dealership just did a flush and they used my transmission coolant lines to the machine to flush out the old fluid. Had my 4Runner for 14 years now with no issues. Not sure if anyone still does Power Flushes

FYI.... My co-worker had a RAV4 and he never changed his transmission fluid and the transmission went out at 250k miles.
So that being said, you can do nothing and eventually replace your transmission or do something and extend the life of the transmission.
