TPMS blinking after reset
IÂ’ve got an 07 V8 limited since new and it was time for a freshen up so I just purchased 5 new TRD off-road wheels on sale from an out of state Toyota dealer, and also bought 5 new Cooper AT 4S 265x70x17 tires for it (great tires). Although the stock TPMS sensors had never given me any issues ever, since they were now nearly 12 years old, I spent up and purchased 5 new factory TPMS from the the out of state Toyota dealer as well.
(Oh and also fixed the factory rake with a 2” lift with Fox Factory 2.5 coil overs, Fox Factory 2.5 remote reservoir shocks paired with CSS 1” lift and 15% stiffer springs, SPC UCA’s and did the diff drop even though technically unnecessary at 2” lift but recommended).
My installer installed the new sensors, tires, and wheels and initially was having some difficulty getting the sensors to read with their reset tool but it finally worked. I drove it for a few days and then was on the first drive longer than an hour when the TPMS light started blinking. I was worried that the installerÂ’s reset tool was faulty so I went to a nearby Wheel Works and paid them to reset it again. They did and it was fine for a few days until I did another drive of over an hour, at which point it started blinking again.
I searched everything related to TPMS on the forum and tried doing all of the suggestions including deflating (all the way down to 15 lbs) and re-inflating all 5 tires quickly to ‘wake the sensors up’ - didn’t work, as well as the other suggestion of deflating each one in turn to see if the light would change to solid or not (under the premise that if it went solid that sensor is good and if it stayed blinking that sensor is not reading). It never went solid when any of the 5 tires was deflated, and stayed blinking the whole time btw, so that suggestion didn’t work either.
Then I went back to Wheel Works and had them reset it again but I havenÂ’t been on another long drive again yet.
One of the YouTube videos I watched mentioned something about the TPMS system not being fully operational after reset until youÂ’ve driven it for an hour. I would have thought that meant an hour of cumulative driving since reset, but dunno, as I drove cumulatively significantly more than an hour after both resets and the light only started blinking when I drove for over an hour in a single drive.
Next I guess IÂ’ll have to bring it to my local Toyota dealer but I live in the SF Bay Area which is of course has the most gouge factor pricing anywhere...
Any other suggestions (other than the silly one to only drive it short distances for ever more)??
Thanks!
