v6 65mm to v8 76mm throttle body upgrade?

has anybody upgraded their 65mm throttle body from v6 1grfe to the 76mm throttle body found on the v8 2uzfe or the 3urfe. urd makes an adapter plate to do it. Underdog Racing Development

just wondering if it would be a worthwhile power/performance upgrade to add to my cai and long tube headers?

This sounds like a recipe to really bring down your gas mileage. I bet the ECU will throw in a lot more fuel to compensate for running lean due to the increased air volume. Never the less I'd like to hear from someone who has done this.

I have no specific knowledge of throttle body swap in question but general automotive knowledge suggests it will be worth very little to nothing on an otherwise stock engine. Only when you start moving significantly more air than stock (with forced induction, different heads/cams/intake manifold or more cubes) will you see a power bump with a throttle body swap.

I have the 70mm (ported too) dual vvti 1gr throttle valve and added a bit more pep but also made my engine a bit more responsive, a plus coming out of corners, minus the open diff. Unless you have a intake manifold the matches the i.d of the new bigger throttle valve, 76mm, results would be nearly identical as with the 70mm.

All I've noticed is a huge mpg drop with the new throttle body. Not a noticable throtlle response either, but it idles at 2k when it first starts up and drops down to 1k once its warm. I'm probably gonna go back to the old throttle body.

Was the battery disconnected to reset the ECU, to learn the newer TB?

If you want better throttle response

try the 3rd gen intake silencer mod on a 4th gen

ISR Mod write-up?

Do the 4th gens have an easily-modifiable intake silencer? I think buying a CAI would be the easier way to remove the silencers. The V8 at least has 1 large molded tube that incorporates the silencer box and would be difficult to replace this with a straight-through design. It would be nice, for the V8's at least, if you could just buy a CAI style tube that mounts to the stock box.

and it looked lame. It should be pretty straight forward since all youre doing is removing the ridges inside the IR that disrupt the air flow through the intake. If you had the correct diameter steel tubing and somehow retained the ECU clip it would need a couple of bends to fit not to mention cheaper than a CAI.

this is not how it works. this car is not made for that TB. the proper way to adjust for the diffence in air coming in is to get a custom tune (not worth for the few hp if any)

throwing parts only makes the ecu compensate for the readings that shouldnt be there to begin with

What is the ECU clip you mentioned?

When I have the time and money I want to buy a salvaged $45 factory intake tube on Ebay and mess around with cutting the silencer box off and plastic welding or epoxying a tube or patch for it.

So what is the black box that is attached right beside the filter housing tucked behind the intake tube? I noticed it also gets deleted by the CAI pictured above but the small hose that goes to it is still connected to the aftermarket intake tube.

And what do these hoses do? The one connected to the aforementioned black box and the one connected to the intake resonator in the front?
