I agree with Urban and Trail edition. I can't recall the last time I've seen one on the road and we have a lot of 4runners in Nashville.

I know there are no manual transmission, but what about lockers? Are they all standard equipment too?

I think someone mentioned the 2009 Trail edition has a locker but otherwise no, none of them came from the factory with lockers.

You will also never find a V8 trail edition. I'd personally rather have the V8 but the rare factor is there with the TE

My 6 month 2009 Trail Edition search:
November 2018 - Check out 105Kish Shadow Mica TE - Rochester NY
Could not get rear locker to engage. Dealer was to fix it and
call me. Sold to another customer unrepaired.
February 2019 - Identified Silver TE listed as a SR5 in Missouri with 85Kish.
Was told it was in the detail shop and I could see it when it
was detailed. Sold to another customer from the detail shop.
4 Lo was not working at time of sale.
April 2019 - Found White TE with 63K in NJ. Called and was told 4wd Lo did
not engage. Was able to put deposit down conditional on good
4wd Lo and Rear Locker. All was repaired. Purchased 4/18.
During 6 month search also found a high mileage one in Kentucky. Did not ask on that one.
Goal had been to replace a 99 Limited w/rear locker. 2009 TE are TOUGH to find in any condition and nearly impossible to find in fully working condition.

I think it depends where you are. For instance, around here I may see only one every month or so, and I’m very observant of other vehicles around me, especially the ones I like.

Doesn't matter... both are rarer than a 4Runner
A good samples of either also command a premium.

Lame so far. Try finding this:
2003 4Runner SR5 with no options. Essentially when Toyota decided to make SR5 mean pathetic. Haven't seen those steel wheels in person since Toyotathon 2003.
Find one in Imperial Jade Mica!

It's rare because Toyota also realized mid-year that the gray plastic cladding wasn't selling well. They reinvigorated the SR5 for 2003 with aluminum wheels, body color cladding and some additional options that were missing for the first half of the year.
On the subject of rare, did they ever make a 2WD V8?

Yes they did as a matter of fact, I'm guessing they made more 2WD V8s than they did 4WD V8s or at least just as many.
