Rarest of the 4th gen 4runner

Hello all

My name is David and I have a weakness for rare vehicles and 4runners.

I’m thinking about adding a 4th gen 4runner to my little collection. I like the 4th gen because that the only that come with V8 ;). So with that, what’s the must have options on the 4th gen? And what would be a rare 4th gen. Thank you

I wouldn't say any are "rare" per say but finding a certain combination of factory options you want are hard to find. Like a 06-09 V8 4WD with 3rd row seating will be pretty hard to find.

Mine isn't rare to come across but I do have Nav with JBL and rear seat entertainment, most don't have rear seat entertainment. Sport Editions can be harder to find just because hood scoop.

Wish there was a website that could tell you how many models were made in each year.

@Timberland 's site has a good explanation:

The Ultimate 4th Gen Toyota 4runner Buyers Guide

But the Trail Edition was only offered with a V6.

I maybe forgetting a ultra rare 4th Gen but....

That would be the 2009 Urban Runner and the 2009 Trail Edition, the Trail Edition being more rare as it came with a locking diff, not sure if either one was available with the V8 though.

Good luck finding a 2009 Trail Edition though because not many come up for sale, if you do find one and it's has low miles and isn't from a snow state and has a rusted frame expect to pay a premium price for it!

Here's a link that has all the 4th Gen year models and most if not all the model changes and additions throughout the generation.

I would say a low mileage 2009 V8 4x4. The final year for the 4th gen 4runner. The only changes for 2009 were the location of the rear power window switch from the dash to the center console and the shape of the overhead console. So... technically those are probably the rarest if you want a V8 and you want a V8.

I have to agree with that one! Never seen one in the wild, or even for sale for that matter. You are also the only one I’ve seen even on this forum!

Maybe the 4runner with the XSP package could be considered rare

Agreed. Really no options to choose from; they are all pretty standard.
