Stop riding around with that bad sub woofer.
Don't get caught up in the replace or repair struggle with your stereo. Although it is not a top of the line system, the existing system does OK. Instead of riding around with tiny volumes and minus 5 bass all the time, and debating whether or not to can the entire system, replace the sub woofer and be happy for a while, it does an OK job with the new speaker.
I had a useless stereo with that dilapidated sub woofer rattling away. The TS-SW2002D2 8" inch speaker was $ 67.00 + tax, an exact fit, and I am happy I did it. I was stuck trying to decide If/when to take on the big job of ripping out and replacing or repairing. I admit the existing system is a little numb in the mid range, and the highs could be clearer, but for 3 hours work and 70 bucks it is worth it.
Now I wonder if replacing the existing door speakers with the 2 ohm 3 way JBL stadium series would help the mid range.
