Wanting a 2wd...

Been toying around with the idea of trying to do a trade of my 06 V8 limited 4wd for a 2wd runner. I don't offroad as much as I had hoped to but still love the idea of a lifted runner and I like that the 2wd can be lifted higher than a 4wd

There is a graph in my mind. One axis is labeled offroad function, and the other axis is labeled onroad function. Lifting a 2wd gives you neither ability.

What I'm trying to say is that I would get tired of the increased maintenance and jumping in and out every day if I couldn't take it offroad.

I'll be honest, and I want to stress that I am not trying to be negative, but it sounds like a 4runner is not the car you really want.

As Inv4drZm said, you lose all the "pros" of both drive trains (2wd and 4wd), but get all the "cons" of an offroad oriented vehicle (poor handling, mpg, weight).

Maybe look into a Subaru forester or a Toyota rav4? They maintain reasonable offroading capabilities, while not suffering on-road for that capability.

I'd rather keep the 4wd and get an enlargement surgery than get a 2wd for the sole purpose of lifting sky high.

I had to check to see if OP was a Texan. Seems like every lifted truck here is a 2WD.

To each his own but I don’t really see the value in this, or understand desire to do this on something which might just be a street truck?

From a handling standpoint, even on something I actually off-road, I still try and keep it as low as possible.

This thread was a head-scratcher for me and that was before I read the OP’s sig detailing what’s been invested in a late-model V8 4WD. Don’t know how much of that is on your dime but people seldom get any significant (or any period) ROI on their mods when selling or in an insurance settlement.

I had a RWD Xterra for 11 years. It was a 5-speed stick and fun to drive, and held its own off the pavement as well as a RWD can, yet I knew early on that I would never go w/o 4WD again when it was time for a new truck. I can’t begin to imagine making the move you’re supposedly considering, but to each his own, and one thing is for sure: there are probably a considerable number of people who would be glad to take your current rig off your hands.

Let us know what you decide. I’m curious to know the outcome.
