Another reset needed?

I got a 03 SR5 V8, 198k. Seat leather cover was torn so I was working on it for two days while the battery was disconnected. Upon completion, I reconnected the battery and it started up right away. BUT I didn't realize the reset procedure I was supposed to do. (i.e. idle for 15min.....)

On the way to a store, engine stalled at the red light. The RPM would drop so low and the engine would just shut off. It happened whenever I let go of the gas, including making turns, stop at signs.... But I could start it right back up followed by giving it some gas

Symptoms:
1. Could not maintain normal idle rpm ~600. When I was not giving it gas, engine died.
2. Lost power steering while RPM showing 0, and car was still moving, gear in D.
3. Later, when gear was in park, RPM would fructurate, pop from 500 to 600 whenever a clicking sound came under the hood. It clicked once every second. (Maybe AC?)
4. Reduced power at higher speed, heard clicking sound (different from #3 above) when hitting 65mph during acceleration.

I picked up the SUV trying to drive home at night. About 15miles later, the problem disappeared, at least for now.

Did it learn my habits already?
Should I get the alternator checked out?

Do I need to disconnect the battery and reset it again to be sure? I have a road trip coming up in a week so any advises are appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

All I did when I had my battery disconnected for a week or so was let it idle in park. It eventually sorted itself with no stalling but the rpm's did go up and down before it stabilized.

Wow, I never knew about the 15 minute idle thing. Glad I read this. Guess I got lucky when I changed the battery last time. All I needed to do was reset the windows and stuff, but the truck seemed to drive fine without re-learning.

The "windows and stuff" includes doing the driver's window, the rear hatch window using the dash switch(resetting the hatch window also resets the rear wiper), and the sunroof if you have one.

Status update:
I picked up the car at night and drove at a steady speed of 40mph taking advantage of quiet streets. 15-18 miles later, engine started to run fine.
Till today, no error code. Seems ok now.

I also have the V8 and am having the exact same problem after disconnecting the battery to remove the center console to adjust the parking brake. It dies whenever idling. Have driven 22 miles since disconnecting battery and it still won't idle.

Can anyone confirm there is some reset that has to be done? I have disconnected the battery many times before and never had this problem in 275k miles of driving it.

One more thing, after a short test drive for the parking brake adjustment I cycled the 4Hi/Lo and CDL without any issues but maybe this messed up the ECU reset?

I parked the car at a nearby parking lot after engine went out like a dozen times. I picked up the car in the middle of night and drove about 15 miles at a steady speed of 30-40mph, trying not to have to stop at lights or left turns. And it was good since.

If I were you, I probably will try to disconnect the battery one more time for more than a few hours to make sure the memory is cleared. And then reset it properly by starting it up and idling for 30min or so.... That's what id try.

Good luck my fellow V8 T4R

What is the purpose of the windows "reset"? What do we expect to experience if you dont perform the reset?

You lose auto up and down when you disconnect the battery.

Also your rear defrost won't work until you do the up/down procedure.
