What should I replace at 150K?

Hello all,

Newb to 4runners, what should I be replacing or doing at 150K mark? When should ball joints, control arms, etc be replaced? Anything else? Thanks!

Its really a replace as needed. Usually by 150k most bushings or joints need replacement if they havnt been already, but it depends on use, care and where you live.

I would say start from one corner and check everything for excess play, rips or tears and go from there. Stay OEM with most parts unless your planning to upgrade or modify.

Decide how long you want to keep the truck.
If it’s going to be a while you’ll want to think about the shocks/springs, exhaust , front wheel bearings, front/rear sway bar end links, radiator/thermostat in addition to what’s been mentioned. These are common replacements around 150-200k.
Go bargain hunting , watch for sales and grab them cheap and you’ll have the luxury of installing them when you have time to do it versus having to rush and purchase parts at full retail when they fail and the car is disabled.

I just got my 4th Gen with 156K on it. Bossman's links were all really helpful when I was doing my research. Just got my car back from the dealer this weekend, I had them do the full rundown(just in case): Oil, coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid change, driveshafts, transfer case, spark plugs, etc.

The big ticket item is your timing belt, water pump, and serpetine belt which should've been replaced at 90-100K. Other then that, keep up with regular maintenance and replace items when necessary to my knowledge.

good luck!

I really like that philosophy, buy on sale and install at my convenience. Funny enough, I was about to purchase some suspension parts over winter, now they are 15% higher price across the board.

good advice... but need to know what engine his 4runner has before advising to change the timing belt. v8 has the belt, v6 has a chain that doesn't need changed unless verified its stretched
