Can I put the rear spoiler on a car that had no spoiler?

Can I put on the duck bill rear upper spoiler on a car that didn’t have one? Is it just plug and play or drilling ?

theyre drilled...not something i want to do to my hatch.

funny you ask this, i know a lot of lips/spoilers out there held with double sided tape. they have replica versions of 4r spoilers on amazon and craigslist with only tape-on options. does anyone know if non-drilled oem or aftermarket just taped would hold up on our trucks?

thanks

I wouldn't recommend it, but you never know with the new technology nowadays. I heard the drilling is not that complicated, they give you templates for the holes. I also want to add a rear spoiler to my sr5 in the near future.

ive seen some videos and DIY for the spoiler install with the templates. for me it just isnt worth it with replacement hatches so expensive, water/rust in the hatch, just for an accessory i would normal remove off most vehicles, figures i think they look pretty nice on the 4runners. the strong 3m adhesives and whatnot might do the trick, thats how some very expensive factory trunk lip kits come on audis and bmw i believe, granted theyre smaller and lighter spoilers.

I want to add a spoiler but I do not want to drill. I am checking craigslist and waiting patiently for a hatch with a spoiler in black to be posted for sale.

I’ve gone back and forth on this subject over the past two years I’ve had this truck. While I like the look with the spoiler, part of me thinks it will impede me when actually strapping ladders, lumber, and similar stuff to the roof rack because I often stand on the back bumper while scraping the rear section, which is difficult enough already. Having to reach over the extended section seems like it would make it even more difficult. Anyone that has installed one, regret doing so for this reason? It also seems like it might make it very difficult for the back window to get cleaned properly if going to an automatic car wash, which I’m forced to do in the winter months here. Actually doing the install seems fairly easy, but the other reasons are what has delayed me personally.

I've added spoilers to 2 4th gens over the past several years. Not that big of a deal drilling the holes. Go for it. Just have someone to help you line it up correctly.

It was one of the first mods I did. I've never regretted it. If you were worried about water getting behind it and into the hatch, just put some gasket material/putty/silicone underneath around the bolts when you tighten it down.
