Black greasy gunk on inside of rear window

Just bought a 2008 Limited V6 4WD. I have noticed twice over the past few weeks that I have a patch of black greasy gunk on the inside of my rear window. The first time it happened I just assumed that it had been there all along and I was able to clean it up easily with some Goo Gone. I noticed that it was back yesterday and realized that it is showing up when I roll that window down. Obviously there is something inside that is causing this but it is odd that there are no streaks.

Any idea what this could be and how to fix it?

Just a guess but there’s gooey black gasket material that holds on a plastic moisture barrier inside all 4 doors & the hatch.

This pic is from my recent sound deadener install. The plastic over that large opening has been removed & the gooey stuff covered to keep it off my arms & hands. You can still see some though at the upper left.

I’ll bet the plastic is hanging. The trim is easy to remove. IIRC, there’s a screw or bolt under the strap handle thing & then it pulls off. Search the forum for removal instructions to be sure.
